Have any of you guys experimented with a 5751 in either V1 or V2 to clean up the Quick Rod's clean channel a bit? I love the amp, but if I'm using slightly hotter pickups the QR breaks up a bit.

Hey Nitrobattery. I'd say if you have not experimented with a 5751 I'd highly recommend it. Great tube to have. Period. I specifically recommend the JAN 5751 variant as they are not too expensive as far as NOS tubes go. I hear good things about the JJ 5751 too. Also don't forget your 12AT7 and 12AU7 (even lower gain) tubes. If you don't have a preference I'd hit up Doug at dougstubes.com I think you have a 4 pre QR correct? If that is the case, just keep in mind that V2 is the input stage for both channels and V1 is your clean channel second gain stage. I've run my JAN Phillips 5751 in V1, V2 and V4 Phase Inverter. I like it in the Phase Inverter slot a lot. For strictly taming the clean channel I'd get a 5751 or 12AU7 for V1. But describe hot? I have hot pickups (Duncan Custom Custom) in my main guitar and I feel like I really have to push it to get some grit (edge of breakup) and I have a JJ 12AX7 in there now. Lots of variables of course. Guitar, genre, pickups, pedals, tubes, speakers, etc. Anyway - hope that helps a bit.
