I'm currently drying to decide if i'm going to get the JCM 800 or the Quickrod. Originally i was about to get the JCM 800 but accidentally came across the Quickrod and fell in love with its sound right away.
What i'm currently wondering is that how tight and articulate the amp sounds in person. Any mushiness or something like that? Why i'm asking this is because some of the clips the sound seems to be exactly what i would love and in other videos the sound is not so good. For example in these two videos:
Amazing articulation, tight, knife-sharp sound what i was actually planning to get with the jcm 800 originally.
And then:
Insane amount of mushiness, compression and saturation and the sound is just plain horrible, what the hell is wrong with that?
Anyways, how the amp actually sounds in person, i really don't wanna end up buying an amp that has overly mushy, compressed and saturated sound. I'm looking for that knife-sharp sound that cuts through the mix like hell.

That second vid sounds horrible! Trebly and compressed!! He must a have too much boost in front. From what you describe that you are seeking.....i recommend you get creambacks with your QR!

Possibly yes. So in person you would say that it sounds as tight, articulate and sharp as in the upper video?
And i have a mesa boogie recto 2x12 cab which has v30s in it, they're kinda tight.

Well, the QR (most Splawns) are tight and articulate.
I actually wish it had more compression and saturation sometimes. That said, I can't recommend the QR enough. The only way I would buy a JCM 800 (if starting over) would be if it was an older, 80's, 2203 or 2204 that was in really good shape for a really good price but I would be missing a clean channel and the versatility.
PS: I actually like the Lucas Fowler videos and I think his video is fine. It was one (of many) that prompted me to get a Splawn. The single notes right around the 10 min mark are cutting and knife like.

I have both a QR and a JCM 800 (1986 2204 model). I can tell you without a doubt the QR is tighter. And if you want a higher gain sound you won't get it with the JCM unless you add a boost pedal or have the amp modded. A stock JCM gets (imo) a more classic rock type tone similar to early Whitesnake (slide it in era). At least that's what mine sounds like unboosted. Add a boost and it's a different story. I love both of these amps but the QR is more versatile and has 2 channels.

I see. Well then, how much bass there is in the sound then, how "fat" the sound is? Especially the low end.
