I am thinking of re-tolexing my EVH cab in purple to match my QR. Have any of you ever done this? I see the tolex on ebay and is not too expensive. I will check youtube videos for demos of re-tolexing.

I've never done it but that would look KILLER!!!
I've also seen some vids. It doesn't look too hard to do. Just go slow and take your time.

Seems like a sticky job.

My suggestion is that if you've never done it before, consider practicing on something else first. I don't think I would trust myself personally and would send it off to a pro - at least for my Splawn. I have a couple of cheaper amps that might be fun to try some day but it is so far down on the list I probably would never get to it. I'm having a hard time even finding time to play guitar let alone customize my stuff any further

Lol yeah i feel the same way. Being so busy with work....it's sometimes difficult to find decent amount of time to play guitar! If i would spend as much time practicing instead of tinkering with my gear.....would be better.
I am still in Cuba right now but will be home tomorrow. Will try and do another phone clip. I have been practicing mean streets alot lately. Maybe i will do that one. The solo is tricky but soooo fun to play!

Also, one of the best underrated solos ever for me would be the outro to (second half of) One Foot Out the Door. Any attempts on that?

That sh!t is so far beyond my ability it is not even funny. I bet you can do it though


PS: How is Cuba BTW? My parents went last year and said they had a wonderful time. They told me to go soon before it all changes LOL

Cuba was great! We were in Cayo Coco. The beach is beautiful. White sand and crystal clear aqua blue water. The people are so friendly too.
My fav vacation spot is Mexico but it's risky in alot of areas now with all the violent crimes there so we opted for Cuba. Dominican is nice too but i find the people not as friendly.
Got home after midnight tonight. Too tired to play and also late. Can't wait until morning to crank up the QR!!😆

I'm never going back to Mexico again. My wife and I had poor customer service experience. And this was at one of the nicer resorts south of Cancun. Employees there were practically rude and they played this 'we need to check your mattress tags' bullsh!t. Not happy.

Our favorite Caribbean destination is by far Jamaica. People there are super nice and they welcome visitors (at least at the resorts). The last time I went there was actually with my brother on a '311 Cruise' from Miami to Jamaica and back and everyone on the cruise ship was a 311 fan. Un*Freaking*Real.

Would love to go to Cuba and Dominican Republic someday.

As far tolex - just make sure the color matches exactly or it won't look right IMO. I can't remember what cabs you have but you could also consider selling the EVH cab and getting a Splawn cab that is matched perfectly both for sight and tone

Yeah Jamaica is great too. Been there twice. The only thing i found there is when you leave the resort, they try to sell you souvenirs everywhere and were very pushy and wouldn't take no for an answer. Literally had to tell them to bugger off and leave us alone. But in the resort was fantastic.
I tried selling my EVH cab a few weeks back for only 650$ and had no offers. At the time, i had the same idea as you to order a purple splawn cab but i changed my mind after not being able sell it and the price after exchange rate and custom duties!!
