Just a quick thread to give the Earthquaker Dispatch Master a 4-Star rating. My current gig is a Van Halen cover band and I had spent considerable time getting the guitar sound as close as possible for the early stuff. What my ears hear on VH I (in addition to the textbook definition of cranked Marshall) is absolutely 'perfect' application of reverb and delay to make the guitar sound so H-U-G-E. I know this was all done through the Board in final mix-down and that's really hard to re-create through the amp. The closest I had come was with a Boss RV6 and a DD7 through the loop - DD7 first in the sequence set for one subtle repeat on 'analog' mode feeding into the RV6 set hotter than the delay on the 'plate' setting. I was very pleased with what this did for the sound, but something always sounded a little sterile about it - like the effects were 'getting in the way' of each other.
On a lark, I splurged and bought an Earthquaker Dispatch Master. I had watched every YouTube video of this effect and read every review. I was very impressed at how 'transparent' the effect was. Problem was that NO ONE made a demo of how this effect worked with a heavily over-driven sound. Let me tell you, I'm ready to sell the Boss stomp boxes. I don't know what it is, but the Dispatch Master sounds so 'natural' through the loop. There is WAAYY more verb and delay available than anyone could possibly need and it was super simple to get the right amount of each dialed in. When you rip into the opening riff of 'Runnin With the Devil' you just know you've got 'that' sound. The two effects compliment each other so well, it's just amazing. Super transparent, no 'getting in the way' of each other or the original signal. This thing sounds so amazing on clean tones, I am convinced you could use it in the studio for vocals if you wanted to - it's that clean and quiet. (I also love the fact that it's just one pedal that hides behind the head with a pair of 6" patch cables. Nobody sees what's making the guitar sound so mammoth!)
So there's my review. If you don't have a Dispatch Master in your bag of tricks, better go get one.
