Yeah i have done a few floyd conversions and alot of stock nuts are smaller width wise than a floyd nut so fitting the floyd nut into the routed slot is challenging. Sometimes you have to go over the truss rod cavity a little to get it on. If you end up fitting the nut on, the next challenge is to drill your anchor holes at the right spot and straight so your 1st and 6th strings are evenly spaced from edge of fretboard. At the same time making sure the scale length is correct length. Yeah......I would be very nervous doing it to a PRS!!!

I hate that every place I called around town pretty much wants 400$ for a floyd rose routing. Expensive!

OK last one.. well two, I mean until I get the floyd actually installed I figured it out! Black tuner knobs, black pickup rings and darker amber/ gold translucent lampshade knobs. All help the guitar look more ravishing and well-balanced with the flat gold, which by the way is alot harder to pull of than I originally expected. Red & black = more serious, self note..

Yeah, that's much better. The black tuners and rings keep the gold from making it too gaudy. (Spelling?)

Yeah, with the black tuners & saddle blocks it kind of matches the pickups and the tone/volume controls as well!

Thanks guys! I kept looking at the guitar all week thinking a gold floyd was a bad idea, finally it hit me - black pickup rings! Some guitars do look better with white one though. Appreciate the input gentleman, we got guys here with taste.

Hey guys! So I think I'll be installing the floyds myself this time around. My luthier is refusing to do the work bcs he's making serious bank making his own guitars. Also ive called around locally and feel like all the other places want way too much money. I've done this job before and feel like if carefully assessed, I can do the job properly. I've been stalling on taking the chance to route the floyd myself due to lack of proper tools. All and all, I'll just need the proper template and find the time to do so. I feel very confident and comfortable. Well actually I'm planning to go five at a time. By the way, I picked this thing up. It's called an Alien X Nation big block made of bronze, not like the typical bell brass. I have to say I had high hopes but feel like the bronze block was alot duller compared that of brass. Also it it seems to eat up or absorb alot of the highs. But I think I have a guitar or two that would benefit from this. I'm thinking it will be grate for that bright guitar in my life. I installed one in my #1 and I think I'll be going back to the brass block. Also I found this! Not too sure what to think of it yet but was thinking of possibly giving it a try. It's called a Stone Tone granite block, made of black granite. Crazy! www.floydrose.com/catalog/upgrades/sustain-blocks/stone-tone-sustain-block

Just take your time routing, you'll be fine. Once you get a template just make precise small motions when removing material. I'm curious about that granite block I've never seen that.

Actually yes! I've decided to go with a local luthier that has agreed to walk me through the floyd install. I think this will be a good chance to learn some great technique and possibly the do's and don'ts. Meeting up this Tuesday! Also I've decided to go with a different guitar, a PRS Mark Tremonti goldtop, I'll have to reference it for my other single cut. On top of that I'll be getting a Fernandes sustainer installed. All and all very excited!

Sweet! Sounds like a great opportunity to learn a cool skill. The shop I use, at one time had classes on all sort of different luthier related things. But the owner told me that for liability reasons he had to shut that program down. Too bad...I would have been all over that.

Wished I would have taken a course long ago too. The only thing I dont care about is learning how to change frets and fret leveling, even though a stainless steel fret job is the best thing in the world and not to mention expensive.

I've tried to setup guitars before and the only thing I really learned is that i don't know what I'm doing. Lol
