So my wife has been out of the house all afternoon and it gave me a good chance to really crank up the QR for the last hour or so...of course I played through the Port City w/ the Small Blocks. Man, the more I play this amp the more I'm floored by how good it sounds....AMAZING tone. I have about 6-7 of fairly loud playing on the Small Blocks now and even though they aren't yet fully broken in they sound KILLER. I had the amps volume on about 9:30-10:00 and it was sooo friggin loud. It's the loudest I've been able to play it so far!! That's probably gig level volumes for this amp. My JCM 800 usually goes to about 4-5 for gigs. The more the speakers are breaking in the looser the amp is starting to feel, which I personally like. It is still a very tight amp but it's starting to "sag" in all the right ways for me now.

Those ported 2x12 cabs sound SO good, I prefer the tone of a ported 2x12 to a big 4x12. The 4x12 'looks' cool, but the ported 2x12 actually created that tight 'thump' at reasonable volumes. I have a 'Tone Star with the 90 watt Alnico Creams in it and it's the best sounding cab I have ever owned.

Not my favorite speaker but the 2x12 actually sounds bigger and handles low end better. Neither one of them can compare to the Port City. I be had a chance to gig with the Port City 3 times since this original post and it just keeps getting better. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cab to anyone looking for up their game to best available... Dude, those 90 watt alnicos must sound HUGE!!

I find they 'tame' the highs a bit - I always end up pushing a bit more treb and presence with them compared to my Splawn 4x12 with the 65 watt creambacks. I have heard such great reviews of the small blocks. I found a purple Splawn 4x12 loaded with small blocks for a great price - I absolutely do NOT need it, but it would match my Purple Plexi style QR! I'm tempted!

Do it bro! Nothing like having a backup cab, you can mess around with stereo as well.

2X12 cabs freaking rock! Just seems like the perfect amount of controllable low end. Tight and super responsive. Plus hauling a 4X12 seriously make you feel like an old man. I wanna try a PortCity cab but honestly I'm getting good tone with the Emperor cab.
