OK ive had these pickups in several guitars, all PRS, all 24 fret guitars.
Before I continue I have to say that I've had a strong philosophy that PRS pickups should only stay on PRS guitars and other brand pickups should stay on other brand guitars, everything pertaining to PRS guitars. And though I'd usually stick to my own rules, I decided to venture and see what else was out there.
Bought the Bare Knuckle mules, including DAllen,DiMarzio and a hand full of Seymour Duncans.
Not knowing exactly what to expect I installed the mules into a red 96 custom 24 and though I liked it alot for Rush songs - the pickups lacked the volume that other PRS pickups were putting out. So I took them out and long story short put them into a PRS guitar that was literally impossible to find pickups that worked.
This guitar is a PRS CE24 with an alder body, maple top and a very nice all maple neck, which by the way is kinda rare for a ce. Ce just means its a bolt on neck PRS.
Went through so much different pickups for this guitar, including the EVH Frankie pickup, SD 78 custom and the famous Bare Knuckle VHii, trying to get a good Van Halen sound, all of which did not work.
The main problem with this guitar is that with the all maple neck, the guitar sounds way to bright and it was very hard to dial out the highs with Eq. I was at a point were I just wanted to get rid of it.
Instead I sold all the pickups, had the guitar laying around for a wile until I finally decided to give the mules a try and BAM! Perfect!
My PRS ce24 sound ridiculous good! And I'm so happy I never got rid of the guitar or the pickups for that matter.
When I had these pickups in the custom 24 the sounded quiet and a bit dark. But in this guitar they are loud and perfect in clarity and color.
I'm still using the Friedman until next week :/
