Hello everyone. I'm still exploring all the things the nitro can do. When I got it I was running the res and pres about half and everything else around noonish with the gain in the 5-6 neighborhood. I've found a different way to do it now where I have the res about 1, pres 3, bass 3, mid 6, treb 4, and gain about 4 I'm getting some nice results from this, it's good and bright like a nice Marshall but retains the Splawn bottom end and characteristics. I was wondering what all you guys were running in terms of EQ? I'm trying really hard to get it to sound more like a JCM800 and then use a boost on top of it to get nice 80's tones and I would also like to be able to get some 70's type stuff, zep, sabbath, etc.
Any recommendations appreciated!

Hey there,
I've never played a Nitro but some additional tricks you can try:
1.) Try some different preamp tubes - different combinations yield different results. YMMV 2.) Try an EQ pedal in the effects loop - for fine tuning and boosting certain frequencies 3.) Try different OD pedals - not that the Nitro needs one but you can change up the gain characteristics 4.) Try different speaker(s)/cabs 5.) Try running the Treble at '0'

Totally good advice ----^ I found that I liked my quickrod so much more and actually my friends nitro too, if I get it's sounding how I want it and then turn up the mids all the way. Sounds weird but it worked for me

Good advice above... I like to swap tubes as well....and I also run an Mxr 10 band eq in the loop. Again, I also like my treble very low and prefer to bring in my high end with the presence.

For a good death/thrash sound I set mine: Resonance-off Presence-full Bass-10 0'clock Middle-half way Treble-full Gain-1:30, OD1, boosted with Red Llama. Oversize cab, V30 speakers
For 80's rock I set it way different: Resonance-half way (You'll notice a drop in bass) Presence-2 o'clock Bass-between 8&9 o'clock Middle-full Treble-2 o'clock Gain-9:30, OD2, no boost. Same cab.

I play at bedroom volume so it really helps to tame the bass end for the neighbors sake. Normally I'd love to crank the thing but I've never had the cops come down so I think I'll keep it that way

I always find that it almost makes the sound a bit more transparent.. ors something.. And that's when I've tried it in the effects loop.

Yeah, I've noticed that my fx loop dosen't like analog eq pedals. It LOVES the digital stuff especially the TC Nova.

My Mxr doesn't seem to do a whole lot of coloring. I set the level at unity and use the faders to simply boost or cut frequencies. Being that is 10 band it has a greater capacity for you to fine tune than just using the bass, mid, treble etc... The Mxr also has a gain fader which I believe I have set just a hair above unity.

I know this is an old post but I figured I would add to it from what Ive found with my 2009 Nitro. Cranking the presence helps give the Nitro a nice distorted bite. I turned down my resonance to about 9oclock bass around 10, mids 4 and treble just a smidge from full blast. Gain at about 1-2o clock. My MXR 10 band in the loop is set to a wide smile (everything just slighly pushed except the last two bands on either side). The eq in the loop seems to give me a bit of a volume bump and makes the amp soud hi def. Hope this helps any future readers
