Did he really say that "he does'nt want more gear" I think we need an intervention here!!! your a sick man and we can help!!!! lol! Yep, you heard it! I search for gear no more, I feel totally happy with my tone. I'm still a curious type, if nothing else than to have good points of reference for comparison sake, but I really have no interest in messing with my live setup. Maybe mic placement, that sort of thing, but that's it. In fact I may be selling some stuff off. Anyone have an interest in my Splawn Marshall 1987xl? I think it needs a good home, and it's tax time. I'm VERY tempted to bite on that Marshall. I was just gonna hold out for a QR....because....well there seems to be a pattern of people starting with the modded Marshall and then eventually stepping up to a full fledged Splawn. Hmmmm. What to do, what to do? I'll PM you my phone #. Then you can tell me more about the amp and, of course, your asking price. BTW, thanks for posting the big 4-12 comparo. I know tone is very subjective, but it's good to hear even one persons assessment of those different speakers/cabs. Also, I truly did want to get out to see 68 Guns one more time before I left town, but I've been really busy getting ready for the big move and just wore out when the evening rolls around.

If you're still in the area you're welcome to come over and play the amp to see if it's your cup of tea. I don't want to turn this into a For Sale post, but regarding my Marshall, I'm not exactly sure what the going price is. I was thinking $900 plus shipping to someone I "knew". Anyone know if this is in the ballpark? It's pretty much mint, EL34's, effects loop, stock trannies, 2 overdrive channels, no clean, solo boost. You mentioned people getting the Marshall and then stepping up to a QR - I did that in fact. My thought was that after awhile I wanted to splurge and get that extra "nth" degree extra by going full scale (and paying accordingly), it honestly wasn't that I found my Marshall lacking or anything. If there were no such thing as a QR I'd die happy with that Marshall, it's got that Splawn tone in spades, not 100% of the QR but definately in the ballpark. But since my amps earn me money, I figured what the heck, I'll go for it and shell out for a QR. I imagine alot of the upgraders are in a similar boat as me. Anyway, if you want to discuss it more, shoot me an email at mkochman@cox.net. Sorry for the detour about the amp.

I think that I will be going with a mix of Weber ceramic Blue Dog 30 watts and ceramic Silver Bell 30 watts in a Mojotone 4x12. Those speakers are supposed to sound great, and they're hand made by someone who actually gives a damn. I'll let everyone know how it works out.
