I have listened to all the clips and have been inpressed but its hard to tell just over pc speakers you know? I am seriously thinking of getting the el34 version, I already have a vintage marshall and a duel rectifier. I have been over at some other forums and alot of people at the plexi palace have said they have owned the splawn and it was just like all the other real high gain amps out there (mesa boogies etc) and that it isn't very versatile. Its hard to spend almost 2 grand on something you cant play. I asked scott is he could send some picks of the inside but said he couldn't do that cause I guess people would just steal his ideas and I understand that. I would just like for somebody that owns one and has technical knowledge to be able to tell me what makes this amp different than my mesa boogie or a soldano or a modded marshall jcm800. why should I make the plunge? please help steve

these are some things that y ou will hear that are total and utter bullsh*t: it's not versatile sounds like crap and low volumes only does 80's metal those are some of the more popular rumors going around about the QR.. it IS versatile...listen to dirrtycraig's most recent clip on scott's soundclips page...if someone doesn't think that's versatile, then they're crazy.. also, alotta the clips on this site (mine included) were recorded at VERY low bedroom volumes..does it sound better when it's cranked a bit? of course..besides, anyone who knows anything about tube amps knows this is true...kills me when people claim to be tube experts and have a 'revelation' that a 100 watt amp doesn't sound as good at low volumes..well duh...LOL...but to be perfectly honest, this thing holds its gain great at low volumes...it'll blow any stock marshall outta the water...at any volume, IMO... only does 80's metal..this is also complete and utter B.S..we have clips on this site doin' everything from funk, to blues, the ozzy, to VH, to Rush and everything inbetween...people that say that just do not know what they're talkin' about..inf act, I daresay that my tone is anything BUT 80's hairmetal..once again, scope out some clips... plexi palace is a great site..but if it ain't vintage, they don't like it...that's my impression of that place...I mean, there's always exceptions to the rule.. anywho, the QR is a monster of an amp, man..that's why you don't see alotta people buying them then putting them up on ebay a week later, unlike mesa, engl, even bogner and diezel...few and far between are the times that you'll see a splawn on ebay..unless they're gettin' rid of an older one to get a newer one if you have a modded marshall already then chances are you'll really love the QR... in the end it comes down to voicing..that's how I see it...you'll either like it or not... and as far as versatility goes, you have a marshall and a mesa...three amps wouldn't be diverse enough for ya? lol just my two cents!!! hoep it helps some

The Splawn amps are very warm sounding. I sold my Splawn Modded Marshall so I could get the new Splawn Quick Rod. Mainly because of the EL34s and the 3rd gear mode switch! From playing my Marshall, I noticed that the amp had life to it. Mesa, Soldano, Engl........its like there is something missing. To put it simply, it sounds like the best Marshall tone I have ever heard. I have played a lot of amp, and the Splawn amps have the tone, the feel, and the thickness that I am looking for! Don't get me wrong...........the Peacemaker is the only other amp other than the Splawns that I have been satisfied with. I would rather take the Splawn out into the bars because I can channel switch to get clean, brown sound, metal, etc.

YOu won't be dissapointed Steve. I've got a bunch of vintage marshall's that all were retired after I bought my Splawn. As for versatility, you'll see when you get it. You can do whatever you want with that amp. Anyone who say's you can't (as Shredder stated above) don't know what they're talking about.

Steve, It will blow you away. It's a tone monster and has way more than enough gain for any style of music. If you like the Brown Sound than you're in! It's all that and than some. I got mine 2 weeks ago and can't stop playing it.
