I'd like to know for sure, but I'd be surprised if Scott forbid anyone to show what's inside his amps. I mean, that's a fact of life, if you design a great product the first thing people will do is see what's going on inside to learn from it. It doesn't mean they can copy it necessarily, but they can look at it or allow others to look at it. I would think mfrs understand that, that's what patents are all about. I mean, can you see Ford saying you're not allowed to open the hood, or take pics? Personally, I'd probably heed Scott wishes if he asked not to post detailed pics of the innards, just because I'm a nice guy (I think). But other than that, I don't think there anything unethical about it. I think it would be unreasonable to ask people not to photograph their amps. Even if Scott did ask, the "secrets" would only last a short time, someone's going to take a look, word and pics will get around, and it'll all be as common knowledge as what's inside a JCM800. That's the way it works. Unless of course you go the Dumble route and cover everything in opaque goop so noone can see what's in there. No back to the important stuff.......girl thingies. We scraped the "goop" out of a Dumble once and you know what we found?? yep....you guessed it....A Pignose!!! lol! actually my Dumble was a fender champ circuit for the clean channel and the overdrive 'supreme' channel was just a DOD distortion box with a jumper

jimbax: I hear ya. I would respect any wishes Scott had regarding his amp design. The thing is, once an amp is sold & becomes the property of the owner, sooner or later someone will photo the chassis & post a pic. It's only a matter of time in this day & age. At this point I'll say that I received an email response from Scott & I'm very happy with his reply! I'll ask his permission to post the info, but only if he's o.k. with what I post. I want his approval. I'll let you know how that goes. As you guys know, the amp world is fairly small, all these guys (amp builders) pretty much know each other.. if they wanted to know whats in a splawn they would buy one and check it out, web pictures without underside of the board etc wont give away too many things. and word would go around pretty fast. but Splawn is still a splawn. I know Mesa likes their % tolerant parts, I wish they would pick tubes better.

Is this weird or am I the only one who could care less what he does to 'em? I mean I just play guitar, the 2 times I have used a soldering iron I've burnt myself and I have the small motor skills of a grizzly bear on crack. I mean I just wanna play. I sleep like a baby at night knowing my Splawn heads are gonna deliver the goods night after night and my little guardian angel Scott is watching over me,,,, LMAO.

The way the amp sounds & feels are very important. Equally important to some of us is the way it's built. Shelling out $1500 plus on a head is a good reason to want to know more about how an amp's made. I don't want to pay top dollar only to find that what I thought was not built like a production amp is, in fact, built like a production amp.

Actually I'm somewhere in the middle.......I can solder, but I don't know squat amp amp techie stuff, nor care to. I just like to play them , don't much care what makes them tick, but all the same I think it's cool to see what the innards look like, just from a curiosity standpoint even if I don't know what all that stuff does. How neat, how beefy, etc. But I'm not so curious that I can't rest until I crack something open, I never do that unless I need to deal with something simple, which is pretty much never. Hence, I wait for the ultra curious types to open up theirs just to see what it looks like. I don't know why, I just like seeing the workmanship behind it.
