Thanks to all who repsonded to my inquiry on the buying the QR. I just have one more question......well a few actually....
I play exclusively early 80's JCM 800 50 watters. As we all know, the tone is heavenly, but it only has one channel, and getting over the top on solo's without a sound guy is often times hard to do. I use an SD-1 and it gets a decent boost, but sometimes it is just not enough. The tone with the SD-1 though is the best, and that is why I ask the next question.......
Does the QR really have a sound like the JCM 800 when it is overdriven? It also sounds like you really dont need an overdrive pedal with this amp? Also, Can you add a delay, overdrive , EQ, and chorus pedal's in the effect chain without it adding all sorts of hiss and sh!t......(JCM 800 users, you know what I mean) And Lastly....does this thing have a gain knob so that you can adjust it to your liking.
Thanks again for taking the time to repond. I really value all the reponses, and it will help me make the decision to buy this amp other than a Marshall (which I have not done in like 15 years).

Hi Jason, welcome to the forum! I used to use a keeley mod'ed DS-1, not anymore,. I use a G major in the serial loop for delays and reverbs, thats it.. this amp sings but yet will stop on a dime. I think the QR has more definition the a JCM800. but yet I feel the 800 at its heart. but its been years since I had a 800. but , from all the amps I had, the QR rules. other amps have been sold. best amp I have bought that I never heard first before buying. Edit: Here is the new splawn manual with fairly hi-res pictures of the controls. www.splawnguitars.com/Splawn%20Manual%20rev-2-4.pdf

Jason Man, I just finished writing a long reply for you and my login timed out and it was lost .... well, if you like jcm800 then you will love Splawn's QuickRod. Ive owned a few jcm800 all but one were 100 watters though...the Splawn QR is what a jcm800 WISHES it could be...would be the best way to put it. The amp takes pedals real well, if your pedalboard is noisy then it will add noise to the amp...if you have quality pedals then the QR is SIGNIFICANTLY quieter than a Marshall jcm800...the Splawn QR amp can be run at 1/2 power 50 watts. It does have a 'gain' knob...of course... It also has a 'SOLO' knob that is footswitch activated and can push your solos into the stratosphere...get rid of the SD-1 or keep it in your Marshall jcm800 bag. The QuickRod is very well made too! the head case is the best quality Ive seen on any amp and Ive owned them all (just ask my wife )...Get it! you won't regret it!

Hacksaw, Jimbax, Shreder.........Man, I appreciate you guy's reponses! I hate to sound like a freakin girl, but I am just so skitish about buying another brand of amp let alone one that it unseen. You guy's definetly have swayed me in the direction of this amp. After trying all the Mesa's, Peavey's, Soldano's etc...I have yet to find a "juiced up 800 tone". The QR sounds like the ticket, so thanks and I am sure I will be talking with y'all lata.

We undersand skitish, if you get a QR, you will thanks us. :-)
I have went on a limb for the splawn. I had the bogners, rocktrons hi-end preamps and marshall 9200s el34 50/50, and 100/100.. mesa's, marshall dsl's and more they are all gone. I have one small practice amp and a quick rod with two 4x12's. Like jimbax said, this is what a marshall really wishs it could be.

I'm also an ex SD-1 user. No need anymore. Also was a big JCM800 fan, no need for that anymore either. The QR has the JCM 800 tones and more gain in spades. Better built, better components and like Jim said, quieter. And the flexibility of clean channel, OD1, OD2 and lead boost on the floor is all you need for any show.
