I don't know how to explain it,, I would never do that now, but back in the day, early 90's through 2000.. I was in a band for 8 years, a band that worked alot , literally thousands of shows.. I just beat the crap out of my stuff.. I still have my old VTM cab for sentimental reasons and because I couldn't sell it for $20 if I wanted. It was the cab I used for 10 years with the 5150. It looks like someone tied it to a truck and dragged it across country over gravel,, LOL... I used to get p1ssed when I didn't have an ashtray handy and if the stage was carpeted, I'd put out the cig on the 5150, after 3 or 4 times, it was like ok,, screw it,, so I did that constantly for years,,
When Jerry got the amp, he emailed me and was like, oh dude, this is really something,, LMAO.. I was very honest up front, so he knew what to expect, but even he was like blown away by the abuse. I've seen it since he recovered it and restored, it looks great. Too bad it still sounds like a 5150, hahaha.

I like BEAT-UP music gear...as long as it performs....I have a beat to H=ll Les Paul Deluxe that plays absolutely flawless up and down the neck...love it... Back in the late 70s I had a GIT buddy just got a BRAND NEW!!! Mesa Boogie head and 2 -1x12 cabs...all shiny not so much as a scratch on it!...I had a big gig and my Marshall was in the shop and he said I could use his amp as long as I watched it like a hawk and make sure that it doesn't get scratched or dinged...I agreed...on gig day we did a morning practice session for a few hours so I could dial in the boogie and get our show together for that night...well, after we finished we started to load our 'band van' with our gear...well, I was loading my guitars when a CAVEMAN roadie says: " I'll get the amp"....and before I could say no! he grabs the head and starts toward the van....well the head was still plugged into the wall and into the 2 cabs...we were practicing on a rough concrete floor area....welp....the amp went far enough to pull the 2 cabs on the floor and drag for a few feet, major dings and GOUGES! and before CAVEMAN roadie could process what a 'dip...' he was, the head ac cable totalled out and pulled the head out of his hand and onto tho concrete floor....CRASH!!!!....I could NOT BELIEVE IT!!! instant 'relic' amp...one of the knobs was broke, the tubes made it though...I played the gig and, well, needless to say, we weren't good buddies after that incident.. BTW: I offered to make good...but the damage was done...

I bought road cases for my 3-4x12's (Marshalls) when I got them back in '91 and they still look like new. By the way, I NEVER let people use my gear unless I'm in attendance. I let a guy use one of my VHT Pittbulls once and when I got it back, guess what, the footswitch didn't work, it sounded horrible and to top it all off the guy said he didn't do anything to it (yeah right), and he didn't offer to help pay for the repair. The next time he asked me to help him out I said, "nope". I have a few guitars that I consider "working guitars" and if they get dinged or scratched I don't get to upset, but I also have a few that are in the "don't look, don't touch" category. I have a 1982 Gibson Heritage Flying V that hasn't seen the inside of a club for 22 years.

outdoor semi trailers, in the early 80's,, the bass player.. quick setup in the dark.. used guitar cable for a speaker cable.. melted and caught fire.. was awesomel... then singer fell through the rotted semi trailer stage.. I laughed so hard I couldnt get him out.. being drunk really made it funnier, they (roadies) pushed him back up from under the stage hahaha.. I laughed harder, then his voice blew out, sounded like micky mouse, ( imagine smoke on the water like that hahah) My new ibanez floor effect board ( first of its kind) quit, blew a crossover in the PA, fire in fire pit got out of control and burned the field behind us, got paid 125 bucks, went to all night Resteruant, started throwing biscuits, they called the police on us. bent 3 out of 4 rims on pickup on the way home. just one of those nights i wont ever forget.
Common..!! share the stuff! this is good history!

we played Palmdale out in the sticks...major gig, 30 kegs at once over 10K people...out in the middle of a cow pasture...stage was literally 12 feet in the air so you had to be back a ways for any band visual....after we played went to the owners house on the property to get our 'Headline' pay...$500.....he comes out of the house with a buddy and both had sawed off double barreled 12g shot guns...they told us to 'haul @ss or die'...our roadie starts arguing with them...they stick gun in his mouth....welp, we ALL hauled @ss...and lived...
