I'm also having one of the QR's set up with 6L6's and thats the one I'll be using for my clean amp as they have better headroom before breakup and not as "mid" prone as EL34's

No...1st gear has the same qualities as a really good sounding 'plexi' Marshall that has been 'moderately' modified...it is my favorite 'gear'... I use a little compression and sometimes a little Fulltone OCD to help it sustain a bit more....2nd and 3rd rear are more of a JCM800 on steroids especially 3rd gear in OD2 mode! AWESOME!!!...the 'clean' channel is like a Marshall low input...

Man...I wished I would have spent more time with the Pro Mod but..no biggie...I think I'm goin the right direction and even if I can accomplish what I need with 1 amp...I gotta killer backup...hehe

well, the 'gain' control is only active for the 'overdrive channel...NOT the clean channel...does this make sense? the clean channel has only ONE volume control and bass, treble, mid for EQ.

I should have investigated further huh?? I assumed the gain control on the new ones worked as the old ones did therefore my need for 2 amps...well shucky darn but...not really cuz...2 is still better than one!!! hehe

hold on...the new ones don't have a preamp knob for the clean channel??

I think Jim is saying, use the 2nd amp,, set it to overdrive channel, low gain, OD1 higher volume for cleans. not use the actual clean channel on the 2nd amp.
I think I would use a second splawn with a effects unit and stereo the amps. L to left amp loop, R to right amp loop, talk about huge gorgous chorus's

Oh..I'm still going to run the 2 amp setup but not in stereo...I'll have different settings for each amp and in essence control over the "gear" knob sort of as in maybe one set up to cover the "raunchy" tones to cleans and the other to cover the "heavy" rhythms as well as solo's or sumthin like that???
