Hello everyone, I am weighing my options as to which version of Quick Rod I should get.... After hearing the various clips on the Splawn website I decided that the Quick Rod had the "TONE" I have been looking for, I'm a big EVH fan, as well as a realy big Paul Gilbert fan, I was a little skeptical of the QR's ability to get a little more terrifying untill I heard the "Dirty Hairy" clip. That did it for me, its just something about the midrange tone, it can be warm and musical and scary all at the same time. anyway enough gushing over that... My problem comes with deciding if I need a clean channel or not, I have a Laney Vh100r that has awesome cleans but leaves a bit to be desired in the gain dept. I dont use a clean channel very often, I ussually just flip to my single coil pickup or roll back the volume a bit. I e-mailed scott to see if he was still making the old quick rod still,(with shared eq) but he is not, but he said I could get a Pro Stock with mullard el-34's for 1500, which seems reasonable. Or I could also just take the plunge and buy the new one, but I would like to hear other people opinions of it before I do, I would assume that the new clean Eq would not affect the brown channel, but ya never know.... I'm probaly just splitting hairs here, but this will be the most I have ever spent on a new pice of gear and I want to make sure I get what I need. IF anyone is interested in selling there old Quick Rod, or possibly a trade for a Gibson Les Paul Classic + cash. or a Fender Yngwie Strat + cash let me know... Thanks

welcome tarv, me personally, i'd go with the new quick rod, the gain channel hasn't been altered at all on the new ones and, although i haven't played through the new clean channel yet, i'm sure it's more versatile on getting good clean tones.
i know what you mean about taking the plunge, i had to take a leap of faith on the quick rod also because i never played one before i bought mine, but once i plugged it in i had a huge grin on my face ;D

In all honesty, that clean channel is ok, but it could be a little better. I think that the new EQs will help. Personally I think that Scott should think about adding another gain stage dedicated for the clean channel. In other words a 4th pre amp tube only used for the clean channel. Breaking it away from the other channels might help. But I really don't know. LOL Just an idea!

BOZ...i think we spoke over at the line 6 forum... the main difference is that the quick rod is more for a modded marshall sound while the pro mod gives you a slightly more modern sounding tone...as for el34s and mullard el34s...i'm not sure how wide the difference would be but i'd go with the mullard option they're better quality tubes...

Thanks Hey Tarv, I'm glad you like those clips. I intentionally made them a little terrifying just for that reason. I didn't think anything on the site had much bite to it other than the excellent Vh clips from Al. I talked to Scott 2 days ago and the new QR has an identical OD1 and OD2 channel. The new clean EQ additional will not change a thing in the crunch department. You cannot go wrong getting this amp.

Hey there Craig. Liked those clips too. Talked to Scott today and he was telling me about the new amps. I love my Pro Mod. I think that the Quick Rod is more in my style though: Early VH, Lynch, Def Leppard, Scorpions, etc. Could you post some more clips on here man? What kind of speaker are you running? I am using the Splawn 4x12 with the Governors.
