I'm not sure which to get. The slanted one looks nice for the traditional half-stack. What's the sonic differences if any?

i have had both kinds, and there is no difference.the only thing is the straight cabs will sound like they have more bass but they actually don't. the reason for this is the slanted cabs top two speakers are angled up slightly so it is projecting the sound upward.i asked this same question to a person the also builds custom cabs and he said that if he were to put a meter in front of the two cabs they would be identical. it just sounds a little different due to the way the sound is being projected. you'll probably have people who will disagree with this and say they DO sound different but i have done my homework on this since i too wanted to know before buying one.but what sound you get ultimately boils down to is construction(wood used-quality of craftsmanship) and speakers.if you are going to Mic the speakers they will be identical,if you are standing in front of them the straight will sound like it has more low end and the slant will sound brighter, more highs. this is for cabs of equal construction( not 1/2 - 3/4 back and such) since those WILL sound different due to their different construction.later man and i hope this helped you out, Brian

Thanks! My current Marshall 1960av doesn't sound much different than my previous 190bv. So I guess I'm not crazy. The Splawn slant cab isn't as slanted as a traditional slant cab since the speakers are all on the same plane.

no problem!! your 1960av-bv has the vintage 30s in them i think they are a great speaker,i haven't tried them with a splawn yet but from what I've seen on here they should rock with my pro-mod(which i should have soon!!) later Brian

I'm actually replacing the V30's with Scumback H55 and H75 speakers. There's something about the crunch of the old school style speakers that really like.

I'm getting the straight cab. I'll give Scott the call in a few weeks. You'll be pleased...especially after the speakers break in.
