Ok just to let you know Im a tone chaser, Ive been through everything under the sun. I've had the Peavey 6505 Plus with the EL 34's and the 6L6's also the Blackstar series 100 also the EL34'S and the 6l6's. Name I've been through it. I play in a couple of tribute bands. Check this out! I was at sound check and one of the other bands a AC/DC tribute called TNT and the Malcolm guitar player had a Friedman brown eye. So I asked him hey let's set them up side by side and compare them and my Splawn blew the Friedman away(no lie). So if you want to go blow a bunch of money on a Friedman that he sends somewhere to be made(not by him) go a head. You get a better tone out of a Splawn.... youtu.be/NdnAl_7BmBw give a listen

Mine both have el34's. One is a 2016 and the other 2015. The 2016 has all the new options. I only use the b+ voltage drop option though. I used to have a 2005 and 2007. I prefer the new Splawns voicing over the older models.

I'm the guy in the TNT band Dave is talking about, and for the record... I owned and played a Spawn QR for years. I had one of the first QR's made with the loop volume. Loved the amp, but to get the kinda gain I wanted I had to run an attenuator or peel the paint off the walls even at larger venues. Dave plays with a bit less gain than I do and gets a great sound and he's a darn good player. But my recollection is that we never really did a "side by side" comparison. I listened to him during sound check with his band and he listened to me when my band did sound check. Anyway, all that's neither here nor there, it's pretty much a personal preference. For me, for what I'm doing in this AC/DC tribute, the Friedman was a better fit. If I had the space and the discretionary funds to own multiple amps I'd definitely buy another Spawn QR for the arsenal... probably one of the newer versions with B+ mod, etc. and I'd grab an Orange Amp and a CAE among others. Instead, I have the Friedman for TNT and a Fractal Axe FXII XL+ for anything and everything else. I will say that for the money, bang for your buck, the Splawn is the best one out there, but I also think the Friedman is a bit more versatile, but then I haven't played any of the newer ones with all the features that weren't available when I bought mine. Steve Stevens used to play a QR and now plays a Friedman. I dug the tones he got outta the QR and I dig the tones he gets outta the Friedman... I think they're both good amps.
