I can't remember who said they used an attenuator with their QR but if anyone knows the answer feel free to chime in. So, I've gigged with my QR a couple of times now and I've been running it with the volume around 11:00 and using the loop volume to bring it down to a usable level. The problem is, when I do this the solo boost function begins to become less "usable". I'm the past we had a conversation here about this but I can't find the thread it was in. I know that basically when using the loop volume like i am, I am essentially "running out of headroom" and that is why the solo boost becomes less effective. My question is: If I were to use an attenuator would this situation be remedied? I wouldn't need to use the loop volume anymore so the attenuation would no longer occur between the pre and power amp and instead occur between the power amp and the speakers. Thoughts?

Didn't we talk about some of this in your '2 Questions' thread?
I don't have the answer BTW.
You want to know if the Solo Boost will work better if you run the Loop (PPIMV) Volume on max and then attenuate vs what you are doing now?
I guess in theory it would. Not the expert here. I bet someone on Rig-Talk knows.

Yeah, I think something in the way of attenuators was discussed but I don't recall if the loop vs. attenuator thing was tackled. I remember when I first got the amp we talked about how, the more the loop volume is used the less effective the solo feature becomes due to more or less running out of headroom. I just wasn't sure what would happen in the scenario where the attenuation occurs post power amp. I'll post on r-t. I haven't been to that forum in a while!! I actually seldom visit there.

Scott's response:
The issue is not the loop volume its the channel volume. The closer you have the channel volume to noon the less room the solo volume has to work. Try running the channel volume around 10:00 this should give you more boost.

I just tried Scott's suggestions and it worked! But I'm happy to say that it worked with my settings as well. Turns out I just needed to not be afraid of turning the solo knob up high. Normally I set the channel volume to 11:00 and adjust overall volume with the loop volume. I had been setting the solo volume to about noon. I was getting a slight volume kick there but like I said I was afraid to push it higher. Well, today I did and there was plenty of volume on tap. I'm glad I didn't spend $200+ on an attenuator.
Man I love this amp.....

Glad to hear you got it sorted and I'm equally glad to hear that it looks like Scott got back to you right away.
Way to go!
