So I just rebiased my QR and found that the bias had drifted a bit from just a few weeks ago. Not a ton but about 3mA. So I played a little with the bias while I had the amp open. I tried the bias at 31mA all the way up to 38mA. Not a big difference tone-wise but I was hearing that fizzy buzzy under-tone that I've read a lot of guys post about. It seemed to be less buzzy with the higher bias but it was still there. I started thinking it's my small blocks not fully broken in. I maybe have 12 hours on them if I had to guess. But my Marshall sounds awesome through the SB. So just for sh!ts and giggles I turned the amp up...LOUD. About 11 o clock. The buzz seemed to disappear... Anybody else notice anything like that?? And if anyone has found a fix for the buzzy thing at lower volumes...don't be shy...lol

Splawns need volume. Period.

Splawns need volume. Period. Yeah, I've been doing just that for the last few days....cranking the crap out of it. It sounds killer too! One thing I did notice since I've been running in half power, there is a very noticeable difference in volume. When running in full power, 11:00 is LOUD as hell. In half power, it's still loud but not nearly AS loud.

I'm thinking I may buy an attenuator, too. I was reading some old threads here about it and the Ultimate Attenuator got some good reviews by a forumite...I forget who..

Try the Webber Mass 150 or 200 bro! It's not stepped so you can get the volume exactly where you want it, and the treble compensate function is great for low level recording.

Hey guys I'm new here, I picked up a qr the other week and I replaced the tubes with jj hi gain and it sounds like a beast but I switched to the clean and it's real gritty? Any thoughts or suggestions

No kidding...I thought it was a stepped attenuator. That's why I was looking at the ultimate attenuator. But it's expensive as hell. The Weber is much more reasonably priced. Thanks for the heads up Tempest.

Any thoughts or suggestions Yup...take out the JJ from V1 and roll some other brands into that slot. An Electro Harmonix might be better there. Also consider a lower gain type tube, such as a 12ay7, or 12at7 etc. I have a 12ax7 in mine but some of the other guys have lower gain types. Congratulations on your QR! And welcome. The forum has been fairly slow but there are still a bunch of us that post regularly so feel free to chat, ask questions etc. there are still some very knowledgable guys here.

Only power tubes need to be biased...not preamp

I looked a little bit into those attenuators....they look really nice and they're waaay cheaper than the ultimate attenuator. The UA has a cool feature that lets you plug into a different outlet that only give 100v. Kind of like a variac. I wonder how that would get along with a drop b+ QR?

Just so you know, Scott biases these amps at 65% plate dissipation. Some guys like it colder and some hotter. I have mine biased hot right now but it doesn't make a huge difference in tone. And id like to get a little more tube life, so I'm going to bring it down a little. What tube did you put in?

It was one out of fender deville, now I got some issue going on in v2, I was tapping the tubes with the volume up and v2 always was making a sound through the speaker. I keep trying different tubes and the same thing so I don't know if something is wrong with that or the amp is frying my tubes or what

Welcome to the forum Elwyn! Congrats on your QR purchase! I would bias your QR as soon as possible and don't use it until you do. There is a bias tutorial on this forum if you need help but if you haven't done it before .....i recommend taking it to a tech or be very very careful as there are lethal voltages in there!
