I just picked up a 3 pack of SM57's for $50 on craigslist. I have an R16, mic cables, quality headphones, mic stands, and a pop filter coming from zzounds. Their 4 payment plan kicks ass! Any order over $250 can be divided into 4 interest free payments but they ship your gear that day. You just make the first payment.

Nice deal on the 57's! I've been looking at this Yamaha n12 machine for a few days now. It looks like it would be awesome, especially if I can find one for a good price or find a used one. Also have been checking out deals on computers at tigerdirect. They have some awesome stuff for killer prices. I saw a core I5 for like three hundred something....pretty doable I think. Just gotta keep researching and wait for that deal to come my way!

So the Zoom recorder came with Cubase LE software. Anyone use this? I can also use this recorder as an interface and DAW controller. Bad ass little piece of equipment fo sho. Plus it's going to be nice to have this in the rehearsal room for capturing those elusive moments of inspiration. Haha

So after a week with the Zoom multi track I'm finding that I'm really liking this little unit. I am finding a lot of limitations but the sound quality is leaps and bounds ahead of what the price tag would suggest. For someone who does a lot of recording and has a lot of experience this unit would be useless but for a noob like me that's just starting to learn it's a great teacher. I'll try to get some rockin Nitro clips up as soon as I get something that is worth it.

awesome thread, and great input from snappinnecks! i started out with a super crappy mic and Magix software. eventually got a few dynamic mics and Adobe Audition. just recently got a little Presonus 2 channel tube preamp, Pro Tools MP9, a MacBook, and some other stuff. IMHO, it's always better to start low and learn what you're doing before you spend the big bucks. my earliest stuff was terrible, but i learned a lot about what i was doing. i certainly don't know it all, probably never will. snappinnecks nailed it with the polish a turd bit. get your tracks tight and sounding right before you record em. i use an e609 on my guitars, and quadruple track my rhythm stuff. takes longer but, well worth it!

Great deal on the mics. All good advice. Keep it simple, keep playing tight and double track for the wideness and, you play a Splawn so the guitars gonna kill lol
