Thanks! Yes, I need a good clean channel....I sometimes use super Fender clean and sometimes a more broken up Marshall type clean. I usually roll back the gain for that, but depending on the guitar and amp, that isn;t always the best approach. My Dual Rectifier is great that it has a pushed mode on the clean channel but I can't get a solo tone I like out of the DR. I don't like combos so I would be getting a head. Thinking either a Streetrod or PWE Event Horizon. I am confused on the SR specs? Does this mean I could have channel 2 selected with it in Gear 3 mode and then switch between OD 1 and OD2? and then select the solo boost? What is OD 1 and 2? Specs: Channel 1 (clean) - independent EQ Channel 2 (overdrive) - solo boost, OD1 (rhythm) /OD2 (lead) mode, 3 gear modes Gears - 1st - Hot Rod Plexi, 2nd - Hot Rod 800, 3rd - Super Hot Rod 800 3 Button Footswitch - #1 Clean/Overdrive - #2 OD1/OD2 - #3 Solo Boost Most of the specs stuff you have described are correct. The OD1 and OD2 thing is just a slight gain / mid boost that can be applied to the gain channel via footswitch -- it works no matter what gear you're in. IMO, the boost is not sufficient enough for soloing, it's just another tonal spice that can add to your sound. The solo boost is the real volume boost (with it's own volume knob) for soloing. I think that when you engage the solo boost (again via footswitch), that you automatically engage the OD2 as well (the slight increase in gain and mid). I don't know how much of this is outlined in the manual. You can download the manual and/or call Scott just to be sure. With regard to cleans.... The SR does not have a lot of clean headroom. IMO it starts to break up fairly early. The QR, PM, and other higher wattage Splawns have a ton of clean headroom. Splawns have Marshall type cleans -- not the shimmery Fendery clean like you get from Fenders and some Mesas. If that quality of cleans is important to you, maybe an EQ can help. In the end it's kind of a choice as to what's most important; I think it's hard to find an amp that delivers great Marshall type gain and also delivers Fendery cleans. And, conversely, the amps with great Fendery cleans generally are not capable of the Marshally gain tone. What's most important to you?

Thanks ronmail! I will email Scott and ask if when you click on solo, if it also turns on OD2. Well I am looking for something that adds variety to my amp collection. I have a 50 watt 20th Ann EL34 Shiva and I find I get great Marshall tones, although not perfectly authentic. My shiva has amazing cleans! I am looking at the Bogner Goldfinger, PWE Event Horizon and Streetrod. Sometimes I like broken up Marshall cleans but I will admit we do play some almost acoustic clean cleans....so I kind of need that. However, I don;t mind variety, meaning that some gigs I bring the Splawn and just play those songs more broken up....I don't think the audience cares. Plus I think a little dirt in the clean cuts a mix better.
I checked: The OD2 function does engage with the solo for the added gain boost.

Richiedie,
If you're really looking for "authentic Marshall" sound, then you might want to consider the Splawn ProStock which is less hot-rodded. And, of course there's Fargen and a host of other boutique builders that do a great job of re-creating a more authentic Marshall sound.
If you want the sound hot rodded a bit, then I think Splawn QR / PM / Competition / Nitro / SR / etc.... are all good choices.

I disagree. My Bogner and PWE both have great Fender style clean and Marshall style crunch in the same amp. Thanks!
