They changed speaker cones roughly at the same time they started putting Rola on the label, which is why the different sound. But they only started putting Rola on the labels when they moved factories (1970ish) and man, players love things made in the original factory, don't they? There's always magic at the original factory! Rola had owned Celestion since before guitar speakers existed, '47 or something, so it's not like when CBS bought Fender and made them crap. I don't have any oldies to tell you what they sound like. I don't think most of the music I loved from the 80s onwards was made with 60s speakers, so at those prices I will leave 'em for the Les Paul socks 'n' sandals fellas again.

Now it's all crystal clear for me. Think I'm gonna go trying a Vintage Modern Cab (G12C25 Greenies in it... Same speaker used in the Super 100 JH, though it doesn't mean anything to me cuz I've never tried one before.) and see if I can make it sound the way I want. Thanx again. See Ya. Fab.

Socks and Sandals here,
in the Golden 80s, vintage Marshall gear was very common, (and cheap!) and a lot of guys did use older speakers/amps to make "hair metal" (see Edward Van Halen), but the Soldano amp also made many appearences (you hear it more than is admitted to)
However, we had the opportunity to compare a legit 70s Marshall cab with original G12H30s to a Splawn with its China ancestor, and the difference was barely noticeable.
I have never had the opp to play an older speaker than a 60s, and they would be useless anyway, not enough power handling.
For my "socks and sandals" rig I pick the Scumback because it gives me popular Celestion sounds with more power handling, in a well- made in USA package.
Fab, once the speakers are broken in, I think the Vintage Modern cab will work out nicely for you, if you are looking to get that classic British midrange from your Splawn.
(Yes, I really like the "socks and sandals", my friends and I usually call it the "docs and lawyers crowd...).
Have fun and good luck!

Thanx Bro. But I have a bit of organisation to do before. First, I have to sell my Rivera. Then I have to call Splawn's french dealer and have an idea on the price of the ProStock (To give you an idea, here, the QuickRod is 1999€, which is around 2 966,71$... Taxes are heavy between Scott's shop and the french dealer.) From there, I'll be able to save some money for a brand new cab (VM Cab, Splawn Cab, Anything else...?) But I also have a wedding to prepare (My girl and I marry on June 25th, this year) and we have to move to our new house, before. Lots of things to do, so I'll have to reserve the cab for later this year, if not next year. Thanx. See ya. Fab.

hi! I've just had the french dealer on the phone, and I think the wait will be long. The price tag, for the QuickRod is at 1999€, so I thought The Pro Stock was gonna be around 1650/1700€, which is the max price I can pay, and, in fact, it's around 1830/1850€, here in France... I think I'm gonna go another route, cause It's too expensive for me. Thanx for your help, guys. see Ya. Fab.

Hmmm. 1850 Euros is $2,686 today. Pro Stock costs $1,550. French dealer is taking $1,136 in shipping, taxes and commission? And that's if he gets the amp at retail price which, as a dealer, he won't. I think it's time to call the gendarmes, because I just spotted a thief. I am certain some US store will ship the thing internationally for a lot less than a thousand damn dollars. Ridiculous.

Sorry for another question, but I had barely given up the Splawn idea cuz of this price. I don't find this so ridiculous: - $1550 + (around) $300 (shipping fees) => $1850 - $1 => 0.689417442€, so $1850 => 1275.42227€ - Airport taxes: 4% => 1326.4391€ - V.A.T: 19.6% => 1586.4211€ - shipping fee from the shop to my home: (around) 50€ => 1636.4211€ - Which lets them a commission around: 394.81041€ ($588.26751) French government tends to avoid too much import. I think they imagine we have the same product quality here, that allready exists overseas... Well, in fact, we have: lysamplification.com/www.benrod-electro.fr/from these two sites, the most interresting one, to me, is Lys Amplification, but the prices.... Any Idea about any store that could ship the beast to France... at a reasonable price? I remember that Rock Solid Amps was doing it, but I can't find the site anymore... Thanx in advance. Fab.

wow,
the ben-rod looks reasonable, but the lys is a bit pricy. Yes, if not for the 20% taxes, and a few high priced competitors for your wages, the Splawn would be affordable.
If I was you, I would dig ebay and the craigslist classifieds and come over here and get it. My friend in AUS says Gibsons are about %50 more than here in AUS dollars.
good luck!

Oh man. I wouldn't buy some French brand just because I was forced into it. I'd be looking on the used market for modified Marshalls, or perhaps biting the bullet and trying out a Laney GH50L or similar.
Now I know why Christophe Godin plays Laney!

I'd be looking on the used market for modified Marshalls, or perhaps biting the bullet and trying out a Laney GH50L or similar. Now I know why Christophe Godin plays Laney! Hi. I've just changed my strategy. I've emailed Studioelectronics to see if THIS is still available. If it is, I'll order it within a week or two. It sounds like this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivGuk-bTiEE&feature=relatedor www.youtube.com/watch?v=CP9-iaarrMM&feature=relatedIt'll allow me to order new speakers for my cab here: www.proguitar.eu/ProGuitar.eu/WGS.htmlI think I'm gonna go with a pair of ET65 (first) and a pair of Reaper HP (Later). (I like them both individually, and I think I ain't gonna go wrong when mixing them... Tell me if I'm wrong, though. ) I tend to think that it's the best compromise, for me, between the thick, chewy, warm mids of the G1265 and the tight bass and glassy highs of the G12H30, but with the ability to handle more power. I'll probably get an attenuator, at the same time. Maybe this: www.musicstore.com/fr_FR/FRF/Tube-Amp-Doctor-Silencer-16-Ohm-Black-Power-Brake/art-GIT0009084-000?recId=a08ea04f-1ca2-4f6d-ace3-b1ca09deb066&campaign=EPOQ... (Won't be able to afford an Aracom or something like that) Doing all this will help me save time and money for a brand new Splawn Pro stock (or Comp, if there's no difference between it and the PS)... You get it? I'LL JOIN THE SPLAWN COMMUNITY... LATER THAN I THOUGHT...but I'll end up joining it... I've been waiting so much for them to be available here in Europe (France) that I NEED one. No matter what price I'll have to pay. I feel it in my guts. This will also allow me to save money for a brand new (empty) cab here: www.tubeampdoctor.com/en/shop_Speakers_Cabinets_Speaker_Cabinets/Speaker_Cabinet_4x12_STRAIGHT_Marshall_Bluesbre_985 in which I'll load my WGS's and I'll be ready to Rock'N'fookin'Roll the whole WORLD... OOOHHH YEEEAAAHHH!!! Thanx very much to help me keep my eyes opened on what's really good on this planet (though there are other things to do, than playing guitar, that feel, at least, as good... I'm a singer too... ;D ). See Ya. Fab.

Not seeing how this works out cheaper than a Splawn. Yep. I realized it after posting. I'm trying to find a solution, at the moment... I'm just back from work, so it's a little tough for me to shake my brain cells that hard. I know that night gives good advice, so I'll go to sleep thinking about it and I'll probably find a way... Tomorrow... Perhaps. Thanx again. Fab.

Christophe Godin is known out of France!!!! KOOOOOOLLLLL!!!!! Seriously, I've found my temporary grail (I mean by this, an amp I will keep, but that won't be the same as a Splawn amp) MARSHALL AFD100!!!!! It was for sale on "guitariste.com", a french forum I'm used to visit. The guy that sells it wanted to be sure to have one on the first run... So he ordered 2 of them. He sells one of these two and keeps the other. I'm the proud buyer of this one... Has someone here ever tried one? Thanx. See Ya. Fab.
