I had recently "re-learned" Unchained before this gig.. and it occurred to me that IMO my tone (along with all you QR owners) is BETTER,.... yes I said it.. BETTER than EVH's tone. Better than EVH's tone on every VH album. I think people have been searching for that elusive brown sound for so long... and I think we've surpassed it thanks to Splawn. I mean seriously,, A/B this drunken live clip to any VH recording or bootleg... it sounds better tone wise. I've been playing Splawns for 6 years next month.. 6 YEARS! Longest I've ever gone playing 1 rig...and I still love it as much as the day I got the first QR back in '04. I totally agree. Craig's tone sounds sick live. I'm having trouble dialing an asshair of sharpness out of mine with the Suhr Aldrich's, and I'm hoping the Rio Grande's I have on my kitchen counter will help with that. I think my speakers need to be more broken in, too. But yeah, you always have epic tone. |

yep thats right.. I still like those the best w/Mullard power tubes, 1st gear OD-2.

first gear, OD 2 for the win!
I noticed since I put the smallblocks in I'm playing with a sh!tload LESS gain...I put the gain on 1:30, firs tgear, OD 2 and I'm good to go....I used to dime it on first gear..not so now

Gov/Mano definitely kicks. I keep switching between them and a quad of SB's. Different tonalities, yet both sound incredible. I'm currently in the SB mode.

I dime the gain on 1st gear. But I never use the other gears... soooo..depends on my chops too. If they are up I like it super clean like around noon.. if im loaded.. then it gets dimed,, which is basically most of the time.  |
