Hi, I originally started this topic. I decided to change all the tubes using JJ's which I've always used in my Splawn-modded Marshall (also with KT88's) hoping that would help. It doesn't sound any smoother and is still very harsh but I haven't had the tubes biased yet. That will be my next step and am hoping that will make it usable. Anyone know what the bias should be set at on a Pro Mod? You should give Scott a call on the bias suggestion. He told me between 42-45ma for my 6550's but I'm not sure on the KT88's. It should be the same or very similar. As for the brightness, I just think it’s going to be that way through V30’s and Pro Mods. Again, the JJ tubes added to that problem in my opinion. Either change speakers/cabs or use some long cables/pedals to shave off some high end.

I have had the same problem with my Pro Mod and only just found out that going to "Half Power" mode (with the appropriate change of ohms) helped the problem a LOT .. I was quite surprised but it defiantly has taken the edge off the brittle tone I was getting..particularly as I turned up to stage volumes.
Hope this helps
Scott
