Hey guys, I know that the popoular consensus is no to v30s but pretty much some of my favorite bands(Protest the Hero, Killswitch Engage) have the tones that I'd like to nail through my Nitro. Both bands are using mesa recto cabs, so my question is basically which different cabs with v30s have you used and what did you think of it? I'm thinking Orange, Mesa, Engl etc. Thanks. ;D

ive only had my Nitro for about 3 weeks now, but ive been running it through a Mesa 2x12 and have been happy with it.
I havent heard the nitro through a splawn cab or any cab with diff. speakers in person, so i cant comment as to the difference but it sounds pretty badass to me.

I have been playing my Nitro through a Mojo 4x12 with 2 P50-E and 2 Hellatone 60L speakers. The Hellatone 60L is a slightly different Vintage 30. It sounds really good through this cab.

Splawn 4x12 with Splawn Small Block 25's. No comparison. It will eat a v30 cab.

I guess I'll get a 2x12 splawn then. I'm pretty unsure about this one and I can't really try out all the different cabs I'd like to because I live in Mexico. Anyways keep it up with the input, nice info so far and thanks a lot.

my question is for porkchop,
why do you say the splawn cab will eat a vintage 30 loaded cab? I havent heard a splawn cab in person...
what is it about the tone thats so much better? Is it better for leads or heavy rhythm or what? Is it warmer, tighter, looser, colder, crunchier, damp, lol

V30's suck. They're so overated. Try the SB's and believe. I just broke mine in. Just like greenies, but handle a lot more juice and no farting out. The sound of rock.....Hey Joe.....they settled just a little while ago today! Dude, they smoothed out bigtime!

My Nitro should be here tomorrow ;D, I've been running my Competition with a Marshall 1960AV(tightened everything and caulked gaps). Sounds awesome. I've read both that the Marshall "vintage" Celestions are indeed Vintage 30's and also that they are "very similar". So I don't know. I did run my Compy through a vintage Sound City 4x12 with greenbacks and didn't care for it all that much. I'm sure the cab played a big part. I'll have to see (hear) how the Nitro likes the 1960AV. I also tried an X pattern with Marshall "vintage 30s" and GT75's. Didn't care for that either. My Competition is thunderous already. Don't need the mids cut at all or any extra bottom end.

I hated V30's with the Nitro until I played a Kress 4x12 that I loaded with V30's/G12t75's. I love that cab. I prefer it to my Splawn's with SB/BB's and Gov/MoW's. I think the Nitro sounds killer with the V30/G12t75 cab now but it sounded like crap through my OS Recto 4x12's and Marshall's. It sounds killer with my Kress that is loaded with Scumback M75's/H75's too (65 watt versions).

I am still waiting for my Nitro (with KT88s), and I was thinking of pairing it with an Avatar 4x12 with the Celestion G12K100s. I have read that the Nitro has copious amounts of low end and these speakers were built to handle a lot of low frequencies. I figured, the nature of the Nitro is to be a "tight" amp, so these speakers would be a good compliment to that mid-rangey/tight characteristic. Any one have any opinions on this combo of Nitro and speaker?

i have a nitro using a splawn 4x12 with k100s.... loving it all the way best combo, also have tried w eminece legends=crap... mesa w v30= harsh.... diezel v30xk100= ok but hear the v30s and dont like... splawn sbxbb = very nice... diezel 4x12 front load k100s= smooth as silk... orange 1976 orig cab 4x12 v30s = again harsh... mesa recto os cab 4x12 v30s = and again harsh w woof...
v30s to me dont let the gain out all the way if that makes sense... for me...

i really think i need to hear a splawn 4x12 in person with my Nitro because ive got a mesa stiletto 4x12 which is smaller in dimensions from the oversized recto cab and i think it sounds killer..it keeps tight and has plenty of midrange growl with the right pickups in the guitar. The reason i say this is because i have a few guitars with diverse pickups and ive found that certain pickups make the amp sound darker than it really is. Case in point, my PRS standard 24 has the factory Vintage Bass/HFS pickup combo, and the HFS is probably the darkest bridge pickup ive got through this amp. On the flipside, I have a custom 22 with BKP Rebel Yells that sound fooking amazing through it, more midrange growl and tight low end, my '00 PRS singlecut with the #7 pickups have excellent clarity and sound almost as good as the bare knuckles in terms of note definition and clarity at high gain, and my Caparison with the EMG-81 in the bridge sounds pretty damn good too. So i think there are more factors than just the speakers...how people are setting the knobs on the amp, the guitar they are using, etc

^ I have an '09 QR... don't have a Nitro, but it sounds like we agree on the PRS thing. I have a beautiful '92 Custom 24 with HFS (bridge) and Vintage Bass (neck) pup's, and a 2005 Custom 22 with Dragon II pup's. The Custom 24 just doesn't sound as good as the 22 with the QR. It sounded great with my Rectifier, MKIV, Framus Cobra and others, just not with the QR. I almost never play it anymore and have even considered selling it for that reason. This is probably considered blasphemy among PRS afficionados. The older, pre-CNC guitars are supposed to be superior in all aspects (tone, workmanship, higher quality components, etc), but the newer Custom 22 just sounds better through the QR. Has to be something to do with the pup's.
