The only wanking I was doing yesterday was on the fretboard, as the Competition was once again alive and breathing fire with nice new Mullards. I'm very happy she's okay.

Good to hear you're back in action. My Pro Stock had a tube melt-down last month too. Was scary stuff.

Ayton, I'll have to try the Mullards dude, those are the one tubes I hear are sick in the tone department. I have the JJ KT77's in mine which Scott said to me were killer, so I'll have to do an ear test. I think the Mullards are more Uli/Malmsteen-ish than any other tube. What is the name of the tube? Mullard EL34's? E34L's? Winged C? Thanks dude

Hey Rik, "Mullard EL34" is the name of them. This used to be what Scott swore by, before he went to Tung Sol. I'm no tube expert, but these are apparently among the warmest of the 34 type tubes, which is why I keep using them. The Competition is very bright, so I try to feed it warm things: woods, pickups, speakers, tubes. Whenever I think of changing, I hear that every other tube has more zing or hi-fi to it, so I stay with my Mullards.

I am currently using JJ EL34's, which Yngwie is using also, and they sound real good to my ears. They all sound good, but they all do sound different.

Winged c's sound good but they are stiff to my ears . I use grove tube el34m's . The "m" stands for mullard . Its grove tubes version of the mullard . They sound great and last a bit longer than the mullards . Lets see couuld I have said mullard any more in that statement . mullard ,mullard ,mullard .
