Been looking around and doing some research on the Splawns and I think I know which one I want but tell me if my thought process is on track. I want a more modern voiced amp so that knocks out the QR. I was offered a Prostock with KT88's which is really a Promod but the owner said it is still closer to the QR. He said he could get close to the 2nd and 3rd clips of the Nitro section but I want it mean like the first clip so I am thinking Nitro.
Now is the clean on the Nitro really clean or is it like most high gain amps and half dirty? I have Fenders that do the clean very nicely. So with that would you stay with the single channel version of the Nitro which is the Supercomp?

If you don't need the clean channel I'd definitely recommend the Super Comp w/ EL34s. Mine does the "modern" thing perfectly, but with the mode switch and/or by backing off the gain many different shades of overdrive are possible.

The Nitro clean is no fender clean but it has plenty of headroom. It smokes the Mesa DR clean channel.

The whole modern thing kills me. To me modern means drop tuned. Drop tuning will make an amp sound more "modern". A Nitro in standard is super fat in tone, but does that qualify as modern? My Quickrod in drop B has a ton of bass and a lower mid tone. Does that make sense? I had a Quickrod then Nitro and now Quickrod again since to me the Quickrod does better with drop B tuning playing "modern" music. The Nitro lost a lot of cut in drop B where in standard it shines. The Quickrod in drop B still has a ton of cut and sounds huge. My two cents.

I'm trying to choose between a Nitro & Quick Rod. This is going to be the most difficult decision I have ever made.

For those that have trouble deciding, I would just pick the one that seems the best fit with your gut feeling and buy used. Try the amp out in your own playing environment, and if it doesn't work out sell it and buy the other one.
Or if you have the means, buy both at the same time and see which one works out best for your preferences and playing situation, and sell off the other one.

Just buy one of everything, that is if your wife will let you.
