Have the funds and ready to go on some kind of Splawn cab. At this point in my life, I'm not sure on a 4x12 vs. a 2x12. Can you offer any input from your experience? My main concerns refer to practical issues (not volume or looks)... I like the 2x12 idea, and it's all the volume I would EVER need, but I think I would always have to put it up on something to get it closer to ear level (esp. at a gig). Placed on the ground, my feet would hear it great. At least a 4x12 has speakers higher. Do I really want to move around a 4x12 anymore? Would I ever need the stereo wiring of the 4x12 in the real world? If I have a 2x12 on the floor, will I always be stooping down to tinker with my Quickrod controls? (I'm 6'5") Help me Obi Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope.

I like the idea of one of these dudes to angle a 2x12 up at you, like a floor monitor, but then you'd need to put the head on something else.

I like that idea Ayton and you could get something like a keyboard stand for the head. Some day I hope to have a 2x12 and stand like that for practice ( easier to carry ) and also a 4x12 for stage ( stack the 2x12 on the 4x12 and the head on the top and TA DA 3/4 stack, 2x12 close to ear level ). Of course you wouldn't need that for the sound/volume on stage, 2x12 and that stand would work fine but the stack might look cooler. I've hauled a lot of gear I didn't need for sound just because it looks cooler on stage.

Just get the 4X12. It doesn't cost THAT much more, it's more available if you need/want it, it looks much cooler, you don't have to bend over to tweak settings or carry extra stands for your cab, and it has casters...so it's not like you have to carry it everywhere you go. Roll that b*tch... ;D

I have a 4x12 and a 2x12. The 2x12 sounds just as big as my 4x12. BUT, my only disappointment is the handle placement on the 2x12. I expected the handles to be on the side like the 4x12, but there is one handle on top. This makes it somewhat awkward to carry by the handle. But it's still easier to move than the 4x12 (as far as stairs go).

I think Splawn will do handles on the sides for a small upcharge.

Get a decent road case for you head, and put the 2x12 on top of the case. It will only be slightly shorter than a 4x12, but I found it sounds more like a 4x12 not being up too high.
Besides that, I also agree that a 2x12 will never sound as good as a 4x12 for the distorted stuff. I like 2x12 better for cleans though (less low end keeps the cleans tighter sounding).

Depends man... the 4X12 will push more air and have a bigger overall sound. The upside to the 2X12 could be that you can buy the oversized rear ported one that will give a nice deep low end and the rear port will help make it sound a little bigger than it really is from the rear sound projection. Or if you want the low end a bit tighter, you can get the standard 2X12 with a removable rear panel. After owning 4 different 2X12's and 3 4X12's, I can honestly say that the splawn 4X12 I've got is the best sounding and fullest most 3D sounding cab I've used. I've never played the splawn 2X12's but in all honesty, the best 2X12 I've ever plugged into was a standard sized port city wave 2X12. Absolutely unreal tone, projection, spread, clarity, tightness, etc... you name it, it had it.... except for the sheer hugeness and volume/power output that my 4X12 has I play a lot of big clubs though so that 4X12 is indispensable...especially when the soundman is incompetent.

Aren't all sounds men incompetent! LOL. Most I have had experience with can make the best night turn sour. I also want to some props to the guys at Ear Candy for thier oversized front ported cabs. They are also front loaded and have some serious projection and dispersion for a 2x12. If I only had the choice of a single 2x12, I would go with one of those.
