Thanks loosecannon. Is that straight in the amp or do you have on OD pedal going on ? That's not my clip, it's from the splawn website, but i'm pretty sure no OD pedal was used. BTW It's a promod with kt88's, I think one of the older versions with the old clean channel.

can you get any kind of "saturation" or "grit" on the clean channel by turning up the gain? the kind of sound you get when you're on your dirty channel & roll down the volume on your guitar. thanks! mark

Technically different? Sure. An audible difference to 99% of people listening? Likely no. You can mic up a SB 25 loaded, decent 2X12 made by 10 different amp companies and record some clips, and in the end, virtually no one would be able to tell you which was which or the difference would be so minimal no one would care. I could care less about the 99% people listening Minimal difference, of what little difference there is a very slight knob tweak would make inaudible, especially when a mic is tossed in front. And I would hardly call a Splawn or Bogner cab more organic sounding. Then you obviously haven't played the splawn and diezel side by side like I have and heard such a polar opposite difference in tone that no "slight knob tweak" could compensate for. The point I'm making is that people tend to spend a lot of time, effort, and money on things that will have minimal results compared to what they're looking for. To me, it's like the guys that spend $450 on a rackmount noise suppressor to get the same effect other guys get form $50 pedal because they've convinced themselves that it really makes THAT big of a difference... I agree to an extent. I played my amp through literally about 20 different cabs with dozens of different speaker combinations. Diezel, VHT, Marshall, Mesa, Orange, Hiwatt, Bogner, Avatar, Peavey, Egnater, Engl, etc. The only cab i didn't play through that I wanted to was a mills acoustic 4X12. At the end of the day, believe it or not, my favorite was a tie between the marshall vintage modern cab with greenbacks and the fender EVH 4X12. Both sounded great at low and moderate volume but neither were capable of keeping the low end under control at stage volume and for $1000, it wasn't worth it. The Ecstacy was good but again, I just didn't hear any compelling tone from it.. it was good but IMO not worth the price tag. So i ended up going with the splawn and It's got the vintage fatness that the 2 marshall cabs had and the low end power and clarity that cabs like the diezel, ENGL, orange and vht cabs have....at half the cost. The one dominating factor in my findings was that to my ears, the lower wattage speakers had the best tone with the nitro. G12H30's, greenbacks, etc.. they all had such a nice warm clear fat sound to them but all suffered from a loose and distorted low end when pushed hard. So knowing that, I turned to scumback speakers for the tone AND power handling capabilty. They deliver in spades.

Played a cancer benefit gig Monday night and the clean sounds were fine..... no boxed in sound which makes me wonder if the room I was playing or stage I was on caused my issue. Anyway, the last tweak I need to get under control is matching the clean channel volume to the dirty channel. I still seem to always have the clean too loud ( or distorted channel too low !). Once I get that under control I am in good shape.
