Ok..... I have never swapped out speakers before. I rec'd my sb25's and want to put them in my Mesa 2x12 recto cabinet. The speakers I am replacing are the Mesa 90 watt Black shawdow speakers. I am curious as to what issues I can expect putting 25 watt speakers where 90 watt speakers used to be.
Help.

SB25's are around 55 watts each btw.

I keep reading that the speakers are 55 watts...but why do they say they are 25 watts then ? Does not seem to make much sense.

It might be that they are supposed to be similar to the 25 watt Greenbacks but were made to a higher tolerance to handle 55 watts. Scott claims they can handle 55 watts each.

That's a relief to know. if they guy who makes them for a living says they'll handle 55 watts each then that is fine with me.
So when using a 100watt head through these they should theoretically be able to handle all reasonable abuses ? I realize you can fry any speaker if you try hard enough..... I just am curious if I have to be more cautious.
Should also be nice since these will break up much earlier than the 90watt black shadows I have been using.

Little to no chance you'll smoke one (aside from a mfg flaw) in a 412 with a 100 watt head. You could safely run a 212 SB25 cab with a 100 watt head.

Cool..... I have loaded my 2x12 with the SB25s. My soundman currently has the cab so he can solder it all together for me ( oh how I loathe soldering!). I wont have my QR for 2 to 4 more weeks at best but I will plug my Mesa 50 watt single rec head into the cab to break the speakers in while I wait.

Got the cab back today and the speakers sound very different ( and I mean in a good way!) than the Black Shadows I was using. I could not crank the amp up tonight but I'll give it a good killing over the weekend.
Now all I need is my QR to arrive.....
