at guitar center...didn't sound too too bad...for what it was...nowhere near as tight and mean as my QR, that's for sure =)
anywho, there was a marshall rep there...he comes over...'sounds good'...you lookin' at the amp or the guitar? I was just there really to mess around while my buddy continued to search for a second axe..
so I was like, nah..just fartin' around...he asked me what kinda amp I had...I said a Splawn..and he's like 'ohhhhh...handmade, right?'...yep, I said..
well, this JCM2000 is a great rock amp...and I'm like, uh huh =) and he was like 'anyway, sounds good'...
lol....

Man those new Marshalls are crap in IMO. Just thin and shrill everytime I played them. He probably got a bit dissapointed and nervous because he knows how much better handmade amps are:).

I had a similar experience at Sam Ash. I go in all the time for just picks and strings,, so one day I had one of my Splawn shirts on and the guy goes ooohhh you play Splawn !!? I'm like oh yeah... so hes like who are you? I told him and he showed up the next night to the show and told me he'll never be able to sell another Marshall with a straight face after hearing the Splawn in person.

Its time these big companies stop putting out crap and get back to building good reliable amps. The boutique builders are certainly raising the bar.

The guy at Guitar Center told me that he played a Splawn Pro Mod last year. He said right there in the middle of the store that he loved it. This is the manager by the way!

Yep, he was a really cool guy. He went on and on about Wayne Guitars too. Said he wished that he could get them. He wanted me to bring my Splawn Modded Marshall into Guitar Center sometime. I might, I don't know. I would rather get rid of it and get a new Quick Rod. That would blow them away!

You gotta figure those guys are just like any guitarist (at least the older ones) and know what is actually good stuff and not mass-marketed/produced stuff. I only go in there to see what they have in the "special room" as far as used and vintage stuff. After I say I don't want to buy it they try the Mesa/Boogie speech on me and I just laugh and tell them I'll keep my Rivera. I must sat the best amp I ever played there was an older Two Rock Emerald. What a beautiful sounding amp! The distorstion was sweet but not much gain and the clean was amazing. Too bad they wanted like $2600 used!
