As far as the bass being bigger with Kt88's scares me. I had to do some serious searching to find speakers that would handle the Nitro's muscle, but I'm not sure they will hold up to more bass. KT88 low end is tighter and bolder, not looser. The Ruby KT88's I've got now sound much better than any of my EL34's did (5 different types to be exact).

i had jj kt-88s in my nitro and i just swaped them put for a set of tung sol 6550s!! i don't know why i didn't just order them in it to start with,i guess i wanted to try something different. i now know i did not like the nitro with the kt-88s!! it doesn't give it a really flubby/un-useable low end but it is not what i wanted.if you play drop b dude don't even think about this choice and get a quad of 6550s!!! they have a more punchy sound where as the kt 88s have a more boomy sound to them.

I just tried the Ruby el34BSTR's. Those sound great but the lows are a little over the top. Dougs recommended the Ruby KT88's but I love the JJKT88's right now so I may wait a little while. I may try putting the Tung Sol 6550's back in also. Tubes and tones are so subjective...

Is there any difference between Ruby and JJKT88's? Are they made by the same company or not? Just wondering because I have JJ's ordered in my next Nitro.

Here is what Dougstubes sent to me today....
Hi Laura, We love the RUBY EL34BSTR's, glad you like them too. We have the RUBY KT88-STR's in an assortment of distortion ratings, and average is available. They run $134/quad and they are much more articulate than the JJ's with typical Shuguang clarity. They have less of an overbearing low end than the JJ's, and better note definition. Doug
...of course, I don't find the JJKT88's to be overbearing at all in the lows but I am curious about the Ruby KT88's now...

Anyone try the Gold Lion KT88's yet? I may take the $200.00 plunge when my next Nitro gets here.

The Ruby KT88's are my favorite thus far. The JJ's sound good but the Ruby's are all that and much more! I went ahead and modded both of my Nitro's because I think the KT88's sound so much better in that amp and I love that amp!
