Okay I got them installed and wired correctly. I let the amp hum through them for about 30 minutes to get the bugs worked out and flex the cones some (proper breakin in I guess).
Here is what I am testing the speakers with. Splawn Nitro with Shuguang EL34s, JJs and Tung Sols in the preamp, and a PRS Standard 22 with stock Dragon II pup with the chrome cover removed. B F# B E G# C# tuning low to high.
Settings are Resonance at zero, Presence at noon, Bass at noon, Mids at 1 oclock, treble at noon, Gain at 2oclock.
I have an Avatar Contemporary 4X12 loaded with Texas heats as my comparison cab (the freakin thing sounds huge).
The Splawn cab with the G12K100s is slightly louder and the sound is more dispersed. The K100s have more mids than the Heats and they both have pretty mellow rounded highs. The bass on the two is totally different. The Avatar cab is more focused and directional so it's tone is less apparent than the Splawn. The bass on the Heats is slightly fuller and muscular. The bass on the K100s is more like the bass on a V30, but bigger. I thought I was going to have too much bass with the K100s, but they are really tight and have a lot of presence. They seem to jump out at you and the Heats seem to sit well in the mix and fill things out. I'm not sure which one I like better. I like the qualities of both. I'm going to record some stuff with the K100s soon to see how it mixes with the heats or if it is a better recorded speaker. Both speakers do not fart out or flap when giving them a good palmute swatting. I think I have made good speaker choices for the Nitro. The amp really loves speakers with a lot of headroom. Oh yeah neither speaker has a fast breakup so they keep good articulation when cranked.
