Vom, I totally believe it is a slight flange. There are even times when I think I hear a sweeping wha type of tone during the lead.

Don't have the song with me here at the moment, but if I recall right, I think it sounded like a flanger on a low setting.

It has that "whishhh" of a flanger. Actually, that is a common misconception. The effect in question was generated by the legs of bell-bottomed, sequined pants rubbing together during slinky, "Solid Gold" type dance moves. At least that's what I read.......

Hmm now when I think of it i'm pretty sure it was Costanza's pants.

I remember reading about his sound on that whole album....he wasn't happy with it becuase they recorded him with effects direct to tape, instead of adding them in afterwards. It's one of the 3 effects everyone has already mentioned. A little flange or phase - or maybe a little of both. He was from L.A., and it was the early 80's ;D

Shallow-medium, slow-ish flange.

There's definitely some major effects going on in that solo, and everyone sounds pretty right in their assessments. Somebody asked for a clip ;D, so I'm gonna pimp an old YouTube clip I did of the solo. I didn't have any time-based effects, and I was using my old Line6, so I just hooked up my wah-wah pedal and tried to do a little subtle Phase/Flange action for the majority of the solo. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aq-Ff4UPEZwIf you dig it. . .great. If you don't. . .great. It's all good.

You got tons of chops Razor you just need to get yourself out there and get some live feel going. Its great playing just sounds kinda dead in the water. this version rules.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSNuIzw9VfUHe doesn't even try to play it right but the feel is amazing. Thats what makes this solo (and Jake) so cool.
