It seems like I have to set my master volume at around 2 oclock or 3 oclock to get an in your face, pant flapping, thud! I have my preamp set at about 11 oclock.

I think the efficiency of the speakers in your cab, output of your pickups, anything in the effects loop, or in front of the amp could increase or decrease the output. Being partially deaf could play a factor as well.

It's a little excessive to me as well....I mean, you cant really use the boost/solo functions when you are already at such levels.
I started experimenting by running the MV full out and the preamp on 0, then slowly moving up the preamp to a desired feel. I did this to get a little more of the power amp involved in the sound.

Hey man your in Merritt Island ? You in a band down there? We just played down at the County Line in Melbourne and Oasis in Cocoa Beach recently, have we ever met?

I don't think we have ever met...my original band is down to just me and a drummer. You may know him, his name is John Guest. The bass player is Cary starr. We mostly just jam now...no real scene here. Hell, George Lynch could not fill some crappy dive in Orlando last time he played here! All the guys around here we call "chung chung" bands, you know what I'm talking about- screaming verses, detuning, no melody, blah blah. Anyway, if your not into that it's the blues crowd. I get bored with that after awhile even though my style is blues based. Clear Channel has f---cked up everything in my opinion. Alot of the former glam guys or others of that time seem to be moving over to the new country music format that is more rock oriented. I think they call it alt country or something like that. Were actually considering a country rock type thing. At least then I can solo and not feel guilty...

I forgot to mention that had I known that you were playing here locally I would of checked it out. I think the last show that came through here was some up and coming hippie/black crowes type band, can't remember the name, they played a bar in Cocoa Beach (oasis?).
Where do you play out in Orlando....fern park? downtown?

Yeah, I gave up on radio years ago,,
I play all over the place. Downtown, Daytona, all around the neighboring Orlando communities, Winter Park, Clermont, Casselberry, Leesburg wherever. All we play is 80's metal.. you should come check it out, its a blast and the Splawn will blow your head off,, hehehe.

ya know, it's funny....I'm in jersey..which is between NY and Philly...and you know philly....always billed as a 'great rock town' and this and that....I'll be damned if I can find one GOOD radio station that plays decent rock music..and I'm not even talkin' metal (my favorite)...
all they do is play the band du jour (which is an overkill of greenday and weezer), metallica, nirvana, crap like that...it makes me sick..and they usually play the same three or four AC/DC, VH and Zepplin constantly..
I had to drive 300+ miles (VA beach) to get some good radio stations..they were playing all kinds of stuff...megadeth, pantera, VH, AC/DC, mudvayne (never really listened to them but I dug what they were airing), System of a Down (the singer cracks me up..lol)...
I hate radio in this part of the country....HATE HATE HATE IT!
I think I'm going for satellite soon...not just cause of stern, but just cause it would be nice to hear something that you can actually define as a good tune on the radio..

I think the master volume sounds good anywhere on this amp. I recorded my clips with the MV on about 7 o'clock.
Typically at a gig I run it at about 9 o'clock or half power on 10 o'clock. Any louder than that is going to get you kicked out of a club or beaten severely by the soundman,,,LOL.
At Bike Week on that huge outdoor stage I was running full-power on 1 o'clock, which is crazy loud but that was a rare exception on a huge stage. I would love to know where you guys are using this volume at? In the studio I could see it for recording.

I run at 1/2 power in the studio - usually between 7 & 8 o'clock. Not terribly loud, but it seems to come through very well into various mixes.
