I know what you mean Shreder. I've never had a solid state amp before and I got my first amp over 20 years ago!

I used to have a solid state amp with distortion pedals..then I got a solid state crate with distortion pedals..then a zoom..then a 5150, then a triaxis..then a simul class...then a triple recto...then a line 6so while I've had alotta experience with tube amps, I never really took the time to learn how they work, the difference in tubes..I was always so busy tweaking/being unhappy with what I bought and taking them back, that I could never learn..lol...thank God for forums and the net..lol

It takes some time no matter what you get. I have never really played Marshalls so the Splawn is a little different for me. I have been playing a Mesa Boogie and old Fender amps for years and years. The more I play the Splawn, the more I like it.

I have a 1983 100 watt Mark 2C head with EQ and Reverb. I got it back in 1988 from a guy for $500 who sold it to raise money for the brand new ADA MP-1. Bet he wishes he could have it back now! I almost sold it a few years ago but my wife wouldn't let me. Man I married a good woman. If I can ever get my digital camera working I'll post some pics of my stuff.

You know, I cannot for the life of me let go of my MP-1. I mean for pure tone, theres no copmparison to the Splawn, but I swear the ADA has THE BEST analog chorus of any amp, pedal or effect unit I've EVER heard. Its like a really flexible Roland JC but with a much deeper chorus.

I hear good things about those older boogies..I don't like their new line at all...as you could probably tell by how much mesa stuff I had and got rid of..lol

I still love my Boogie. It has a great compressed distortion and you can do the scooped mids thing like no other amp. It has a really good clean channel as well. Overall it's one of my favorite rock amps ever.
The funny thing about the ADA is that everyone I knew had one and got a good tone out of it. I just couldn't make it work for me for some reason. The best luck I had with a midi preamp was the Peavey tubefex. That thing really sounded good to me when I put a tube power amp on it. I know a few great local players who still use the ADA for certain things too Craig.

I think my old guitar teacher had one of those...it was the one with the graphic eq on the front..just a one speaker combo amp..from what I remember, it sounded killer!@

I wouldn't use the ADA over a good tube head, but its just that dang clean channel, its sOOOO nice with that beautiful analog chorus.
