I just got this PM from a guy on the harmony central boards..
what do you guys think?
from what it sounds, it was the previous version with the two separate EQ, but wiht the separate hi and low gain inputs..send it to scott, got it modded to look just like the new ones with the third gear knob and the mullards...so (correct me if I'm wrong) it's exactly the same as a current issue QR..
normally I'm wary of this type of thing..but his feedback makes me more comfortable..and the price?? with the price, I have to seriously consider it...
I "MIGHT" sell my Quick Rod I bought a couple months ago. I bought it used, and Scott serviced it, put it in a brand new shell, (black w/silver piping), re-tubed with new Mullard EL34's, and 3rd gear knob modification. I received it directly from him.
I can send you pics, if interested. The amp smokes, and is MINT, and basically brand new, but used. You can pick this up for considerably less than the $1500-$1750 price tag...
I have 100% feedback on ebay, and guarantee the condition of this amp. I'm just gassing for an Engl Blackmore, or Fireball.
Again, I'd be glad to send you pics. I'm asking $1200, OBO. Comes with 3-button footswitch, (clean, OD1-OD2, and solo boost). Amp has 2 volumes.
~~edit
no separate EQ =( great price though...gotta think about it..I really did want that separate eq though...

Hi,
I am past QR owner myself. I had the one with hi/low inputs but without the seperate eq. I don't think the seperate Eq on the clean channel is that important. First off the Eq on the splawns is very subtle so you don't get much of a sweep from high to low and it would probably be less noticable on a clean setting anyway. Besides, who buys a splawn for the clean channel anyway?? I never even played mine clean but I only had it for two weeks. I would nab it for $1200 or less if this is the amp you want. If you buy one new and decide you don't want it you will probably loose more money. BTW there are two splawns on ebay right now. A pro mod and a quick rod. Good luck....

Hi,
I played around with it for a few weeks and because I am a bedroom player I couldn't justify keeping it. At a real low level it would sound paper thin and by the time the fullness kicked in It was fairly loud. They are great amps if you are gigging and want the beefed up marshall sound. To me it sounded like a cross between a good JCM and a 5150. Nice and tight bottem end and plenty of clarity in the overdrive. Not quite as brown as the man's but its in the ballpark. I just bought an original naylor head which I am going to give a try. I never heard one before but most people that have played em love em. Thats the beauty of ebay, you can try different things out and not loose an arm and a leg if you buy it right... Good luck

yeah, that makes sense...I do both, gig and play in the bedroom...I'm supposed to be going to try out a brand new on in a couple of weeks..so I'll know for sure whether I want it or not..even though I'm tempted to just buy the damn thing..lol....but I've gotten burned too many times doing things that way..we'll see what we'll see!
I always liked the sounds that other guys have gotten with marshalls (EVH, Zakk, Jake E. Lee, Lynch, Norum, etc, etc) but I've never played through a single marshall that I actually liked...talk about something that doesn't sound good at bedroom levels =) BUT that's always the sound I seem to be trying to attain..so we'll see how Mr. QR works out for me =)

There goes Tubez again.... sometimes I wonder if were talking about the same amp. Do you work for Voodoo or something? I though this was the Splawn FANS forum.
Anyway,, all my clips were recorded on half-power at an extremely low volume. Theres nothing thin about it. I also still own a 5150, and the QR sounds nothing like it, not in any way, not even in the same neighborhood tone-wise. It sounds great at any volume. I can't even play through the 5150 anymore, its that bad compared to the QR. I'm ready to sell it CHEAP. Tubez if your interested you can have it for $300.00.

Craig,
When I say paper thin I am talking at speaking level volume. When I had mine and put the master volume on say in between 0 and 1 it was thin. By the time I could get it to 1 on the master volume then it totally kicked in but was fairly loud. My prosonic had much more control over the volume and tone at real low levels. The splawn is made to open up a little. You keep insisting that I am knocking the splawn.. Your wrong. I think its a great sounding amp. Not as versatile in achieving various tones as some other amps out there but certainly great at what It was designed to do. You yourself should be a little more open minded about other amps out there. I know this is a splawn forum so god forbid another amp should be spoken about. We all know tone is subjective and what one thinks is great another doesn't even like. I just recently discovered a Reinhardt amp which I think sounds killer... Take a listen for yourself at Reinhardtamps.com

Craig, I don't like the 5150 that much myself and I know the splawn sounds much better but I was giving a general comparison. For whatever its worth Mr VHoholic used a 5150 on some of his VH clips and to me it sounds better then any of the clips on the splawn site so again do the hands make that much of a difference in the tone?

I don't think VHoholic's clips with the 5150 sound good at all. I think he plays well, and he uses actual VH tunes as backing tracks which makes a big difference. I like his Marshall clips much better. I think Al's VH clips are way better in tone and playing though and they are live with his own band.
Anyway, yeah Shreder I'm selling my 5150, I have no need for it. Its not the orginal block logo, its the script sig logo from around '94 I think. It battered and missing some knobs from years on the road, but works fine.

yeah they seem to be really popular among the Metal crowd right now. I swear I watched Headbangers ball last week and almost every band had 5150's... crazy. Sure go ahead, give them craig@dirrtyhairy.com $300 + shipping.
