hehe, yeah, I understand what you're saying. It's odd, the Nitro is a weird bird it seems. Some people really dig it, others don't at all. I have a couple friends with whom I normally completely agree with about gear. Both of them don't care for the Nitro, but I love it, it kind of surprised me. Maybe I would be less jaded about the Rectos if I had owned an older one. I had a 3ch and a Recto Pre. Trying to dial those in was so frustrating, I was constantly comparing it to my friends older one and falling short. I dialed his in for him, lol, so it wasn't a question of EQ. I guess the Nitro just has a lot of the qualities I really liked about the Recto, without the downsides I really hated. That said, I bought the Nitro to replace the QR, but that's not happening, lol. Eck...I tried one of those Recto's pres and didn't like it either. I've only heard 1 3 cannel Recto I liked, and it was one I bought new back in 2001. The rest of them have sounded like garbage to me. It is funny about people and how they perceive tone. I like the QR better than any Marshall I've played, but some people still swear by their new JVM amps (and I have no clue why). I actually like the QR better than the Nitro. not that I dislike the Nitro at all, just prefer my Recto to it for that sound, and prefer the QR to the Nitro in general. And that's all I'm trying to say..haha. It's all personal preference. The Nitro does not suck. It rocks as a matter of fact. But, not my thing. The thousands of people that buy Mesa products others than the new Recto garbage and swear by them can't be wrong either. That and the fact that most people complain about amps before they really get properly test them out. I.E. pluggin in and turning on. That just ain't gonna work. I see people say Mark IV's are thin. Well my Mark III which as we all know is similar to the Mark IV has just as tight of a bottom end as the Nitro. That's because we've spent the time with it to get it the way I want it. It sounds like KSE/SF meets 80's Metallica. I do beleive that's what the aim of the Nitro was as well. Modern meets Old School. Well I was able to get it from the "Muddy" Mesa

I don't know what they changed, but they shouldn't have "fixed" it. I also completely agree about the JVM, I don't interject my opinion when guys are singing the praises about it, but man, the QR absolutely destroys it to my ears. I love Marshall, don't get me wrong, but I don't think I've heard any of their current production amps that could hold a candle to the Splawns imo.

If Mesa is so great why has Kirk gone to Randall? As far as Randall, go see Sevendust live, dude more ballz than MLB traing camp. I'm a huge fan of Randall tone. Reliability sux. If the Nitro wasn't so articulate I would probably use Randalls primarily. I really didn't care for the quickrod, so there ya go.

I think you can dial in the QR in a few minutes to sound better than than any current productioin Marshall out there, epecially that JVM which is garbage IMO. I don't normally speak about an amp until I've actually owned it, but I spent over an hour trying to dial that thing in (on two different occasions) and could only find one channel/mode that was usable, and even that I didn't like.

$$$$$
He actually still has a Mesa endorsment. And any amp Kirk plays sucks because he never had a decent tone. EVER Metallica Tone-James Hetfield 100%

I'd be curious to see what kind of back line Kirk has live. I'm thinking Randall, so he probably got dropped by Mesa. Anyhow everyone has different opinions of good tone. I have never heard of a Splawn getting defuzzed though or having the gain channel modded to sound better. The only gripe I have with a Splawn is the massive VOLUME! I have found a way to overcome it in recording, so no more problems. Here is a list of amps I have heard that I would put up against the Nitro: Framus Cobra Diezel Herbert Engl Blackmore? Bogner Ubershall-Ecstacy Egnater modular
All are more expensive than the Nitro. The Nitro is a good deal. It may not be the best overall out of the ones I listed, but a really good choice. My 2cents.

my 2cents... I think there a lot of great amps,my nitro,my herbert and my triple recto are among them...however I think most of you on any given night at a live show or a recording couldnt tell which amp someone was using unless you saw it.Tone is either great/good or sucks. A lot of players layer amps Mark Tremonti is one of them..Ive heard so many awesome amps out there its unreal, randalls, voodoo,h&k,vht, etc...And the newest one is the line 6 hd100 very impressive.SO, Rawk ON Mother Truckers!
