Oh thanks, man!
I'm glad people are still finding this thread and listening. I'm about to put an old V30 in that cab with the Gold tonight actually, to see what comes out.

Are you getting an excess of boomy bass from the G12H30? I keep hearing about that, which is probably why I still haven't ordered one (well, the Hellatone version) to partner the Gold.
I put the V30 in there with the Gold tonight - just temporary, had to steal it from a combo - and I've been going nuts, noodling away for hours. I still have the warmth and musicality of the Gold, but I got some attack back by mixing in the V30. And the V30's not too honky because it's tempered by the Gold's evenness or scoopedness. Had a lot of fun.
There are so many good combinations. I wish I could have twelve 2x12s and a giant switcher box.

it does seem to have more bass than what i'm used to. of course all i've ever had was a dsl combo with a V30 so i don't have much to compare it to. it sounds good though, just had to back down the bass a little

Excellent playing and clips but I have a couple of questions. Is the snarly, nasally upper midrange just the voice of the QR or is that more of the speaker contributing this?
also, do you think the gold would work best in open or closed back environment?

Ha, yeah, that'll be the amp! It's, you know, what they do. The Gold is actually quite even, or relaxed, across the mids. Check out the video on the Celestion site that shows Golds being used with a series of amps if you haven't already. Might give you a better idea what it's like all round, not just with a snarly Splawn. I've little experience with cabs, but tend toward open back because I'm not really interested in thump. Are you planning to hook some Golds up to that Nitro? That would be even wackier than what I did!

nah my pockets aren't deep enough for golds. I'm talking to a guy on HC about a used 4X12 splawn with bb/sb's.
I've got a pair of earcandy 125watt greenmachine speakers (similar to eminence wizards) that I may substitute in depending on what type sound I hear initially (if I even buy it) I've got a power amp on ebay trying to sell to fund it. :/

Yes,
those clips sound great. Alnico mags are like a time machine aren't they?

Wow! Two year old thread resurrection — unexpected! Thanks fellas. ;D
The Gold is really interesting in this application. Vintage characteristics, with all that Splawn gain.
