Welcome to the fold Darren I for my sins am a fellow UK type and generally hated by most of the guys here ;D. I'm waiting for a QR at the moment, patiently checking for it in Voms Newborns section. How did you come across the beauty that is Splawn? I never wanted a Marshall, but as soon as I heard the guys from the board here, I definitely wanted a Splawn.

I think if I was still at home I'd have looked into ordering just the head, or the head and speakers, but buying a cab locally to save some green on that shipping. But then, I am Scottish. Now I know why you hate me so .

hi paul..the splawn name has been popping up over on doug aldrich's site where im a member..a couple of the guys over on there are too from the uk..1 is a QR owner and the other a COMP..so for the last 3 months ive been listening to demo's and video's over and over to come to my decision..ive always been a fan of the modded marshall sound,as im a huge fan of john sykes..i chose the comp over a QR as im not really a clean sound player..so when i found out the comp is basically the od channels from the QR i chose that..so i thought while im at it ill order the cab at the same time..i only ordered mine earlier in the week with scott,so its gonna be some time until i recieve it..basically feb/march.. is yours due any time now?? did you go for head only or head and cab? betcha cant wait now? i know i cant and ive only just orderd it..

Ahh, that's cool man, you can't deny the quality of Mr Sykes. One of the guys here (guitarnate2000), has a Cameron Modded Marshall in a beautiful orange Splawn box that used to belong to Doug. I've yet to hear it, but its gotta have a bunch of good tone. I tend to play distorted for the most part, I just wanted the clean option for recording and stuff. I've Just ordered the head on this occasion, but as Ayton suggests I may order some of Scotts speakers for my stack. I'm hopeful for delivery in early January maybe, as I ordered the tail end of October. I know that Scotts busy so I won't be harrassing the man, but I am getting withdrawal symptoms at the moment..

yeah..$250 shipping on the head and $350 on the 4-12 cab too..in the uk we have to pay 17.5% vat (value added tax) and 2.5% import tax..which that will take it too around $600 plus the $600 on shipping..thats only 300 short of another competition head.. i dont think you have to pay the vat in israel?.. if i ordered something from anywhere in europe i dont have to pay vat or import. thats why it costs so much Ohh I didn't notice you ordered a cab as well...

i hear what your saying ayton..but im a bit of a bugger for gettin things right..i just thought if im gonna spend this amount i may aswell go for it all..that way its done and i dont have to do it again..so your from bonny scotland!! im currently in wales..but originally from birmingham..big marshall area.. how long have you owned your competition?? whats your favourite mode?? If you're in Wales I hope you didn't order your stack in white, lest someone tries to shag it. I'm relatively new, too, Darren. Mine arrived mid August. If you've been scouring YouTube as much as I imagine, you've probably seen the video of my comp arriving and being set up. Favorite mode. Well if Scot came round with a screwdriver and said I could only keep one, I think I'd go for 1st Gear OD2, because you can do so much with it and it's so expressive and "brown". But golly, 2nd is so thick with big brass ballsy tone, it really sings and I can noodle in that for hours. And 3rd is like the top end of your speedometer in a cool car - you rarely reach it, but you're happy it's there because it means there's always more in reserve.

thanks mate...being new to the splawn realm,i decided to go for the competition..once ive spent a few months with it,i may then look into ordering a new amp next year.. the nitro that you have on order sounds like a great amp..and judging by the video i've seen of the convention everyone seemed excited when scott plugged in.. ive always been used to high gain amps but never really liked the tone..mainly engl's i also owned a splawn modded marshall plexi which was great, but kinda one trick pony.. so if the comp sounds as good as that with the extra versatility, then ill be a happy guy!!

congrats on the purchase bro...I was in the UK this summer and was blown away at how expensive gear was. I was in a guitar store and saw a cool old MXR flanger that I wanted to pick up but it was like 2 1/2 times what I would spend on a vintage pedal here in the states. Good job on finding scott, seems like more and more people outside of the US are finding out where best made amps are made.

cheers van..yeah im really looking forward to getting it..still got a couple of months to go yet though!! the gear here in the uk is always expensive..i just ordered myself a new les paul custom..again from the states..even with the import duties, irs still cheaper than buying new over here..as with all guitars and amps here.. couldn't make my mind up between the custom or a 57 reissue goldtop...the custom won in the end
