Not to be argumentative or anything. The Competition is available direct from Scott only. Just so you know. No getting around the wait as far as I know.

not that I am defending those fedex idiots in any way but I must say that it still sounds better than the deal I had with UPS shipping an amp I sold in order to buy my splawn. I shipped out a jcm2000 marshall, super well packed, to a guy in texas and it never made it there. after 2 weeks the guy called me wondering where it was so I looked it up with ups and apparently it was damaged and it just sat in their warehouse that whole time until I called when they told me the box was damaged. they told me they'd ship it back to me free of charge.....sounds good. until it gets to my local ups facility when it sits there for 3 days with "delivery exceptions" finally the ups guy shows up at my door but before I could get to the door he turns around and leaves without leaving anything or ringing the door bell.....needless to say i'm pissed. I call the ups facility and they said there was nothing but an empty box by the time it got to my door. you'd think they'd at least have the common sense to put some kind of box around it if it was to the point something was going to fall out and at least letting me know something was wrong instead of making me track it down. well....long story made slightly shorter, I hassled with ups for months and never did get my money back. they claimed it wasn't insured when it was and I was out $700. not happy

Seems odd to me, too. The Competition is the Boutique amp builder's Boutique amp.

A brief update. The seller confirmed from my photographs that this was not the box he sent the amp in. FedEx have definitely changed it to cover up their negligence. I think at this point he realized how big of a screw up we're talking here and agreed to refund my money while he fights them for a claim. \o/ I don't even have to pay to ship it back. As it's part of a claim case now, FedEx is coming to pick it all back up Monday from the house. I am ordering a new Competition on Monday morning. I can understand what you say about "chasing around problems." If it had been me, even if it fired up fine I'd always be wondering, "hmmm, is this really working right considering all it's been through? It sounds fine, but you just never can tell." These are exactly my thoughts. I don't want to seem precious, but it would always bother me.

Well, things turn out the way they're supposed to. Now, you'll get a brand spankin' one with 3 gears, 1/2 power switch, the whole deal. Order quick, could be a surge in sales soon if enough people read the Guitar Player article. I'm demo-ing my Competition for an interested party locally who is interested in Splawn (we have very few Splawns in the NW and nobody carries them), so I'm doing my part to keep resale values high .

Hi Ben,
It was the Guitar Player issue with Jack White on the cover. I'll try to dig it up here somewhere, someone copied it verbatim.

Here it is verbatim: Buzz Bin NEW, HIP, AND UNDER THE RADAR BOUTIQUE BAD-ASS Several months ago, a friend called and said, "There's some guy in North Carlona who's building an amp that nails Eddie's brown sound." That "guy" turned out to be Scott Splawn, a boutique amp builder who's particularly talented with Marshall circuits. Splawn's hand-built 100-watt Quick-Rod head is based on several Marshall-style circuits and housed in your choice of Marshall-esque cabinets. But, as I had been advised, it's the amp's ability to uncannily replicate Van Halen's brown sound that has made it, and Splawn, a sensation almost overnight. In a nod to the spirit of hot rodding, the Quick-Rod's three high-gain modes are called "gears." Each has two gain settings, giving the amp a total of six hih-gain modes. First gear is where you'll find the beautifully tight, woody, and three-dimensional approximation of Van Halen's early tone. Second and Third gears progressively add gain and are tuned more for modern metal, but the amp never loses its laserlike focus and precise articulation. Blues-men will also be overwhelmed by the amp's Clean channel: It's stinging attack and cavernous resonance combine for one of the most inspiring tones in its class. From vinatage "Plexi" blues to the hottest modified JCM800 distortion, the solawn Quick-Rod serves up a connoisseur's cornucopia of Marshall-inspired tone.-(Eric Kirkland) From Guitar World August '07 Of course, in typical Splawn Forum style, we couldn't just discuss the article, but had to decide whether Jack White sucked or not LOL!!! Wouldn't be the same without all the colorful commentary... here's the whole thread: splawnfans.proboards38.com/index.cgi?board=news&action=display&thread=1180491475&page=1
