I hear you...whenever I need to learn a bunch of songs, I listen to them over and over again...everywhere I go. I found that way really cuts down on the time I need when I finally sit down and pick up the guitar. The downside...I usually hate the songs by then. ;-)

I found that way really cuts down on the time I need when I finally sit down and pick up the guitar. The downside...I usually hate the songs by then. ;-) what did you guys play opening for pearcy? We played a handful of originals...which wasn't what the promoter wanted, but the crowd dug it. For covers, we did: Savatage - Hall of the Mountain King Testament - Practice What You Preach Iron Maiden - 2 Minutes to Midnight Judas Priest - The Hellion/Electric Eye Ozzy - Mr. Crowley Metallica - Creeping Death Scorpians - Blackout That was probably the last time we'll play Mr. Crowley, 2 Minutes to Midnight, and Creeping Death as we've done them to death. We've written 6 new originals that we are going to finish up this weekend (brings the total to about 15) and we've been toying around with: Tesla - Modern Day Cowboy 3 Ozzy Tunes - Flyin' High Again, Bark at the Moon, and Miracle Man (completes the guitarist trifecta ;D ) Van Halen - Atomic Punk Guns N' Roses - Out ta Get Me Queensryche - Eyes of a Stranger We also do a version of King Diamond's "Welcome Home"..but our singer actually puts his own spin on it...I really like his take. (None of the operatic falsetto or gravel in your throat death metal stuff.) Our list was definitely heavier than what you'd expect for that show...but I was slayed by how the crowd dug it. (Probably because our originals are closer to what the show demanded...)

Thanks Vom...for a bunch of guys with full-time jobs/careers...we have a lot of fun. I push for more original stuff, mainly because I get bored very quickly...plus, I really dig trying different things. If we do covers, we like to do a lot of songs that were deeper cuts. My other guitarist is pretty "in the box" when it comes to solo's...I like trying different approaches. That causes me to hit a bunch of clams/worts/whatever during rehearsal...but hey, no big deal...that's what rehearsals and practices are for, we usually bring it pretty well together for shows.
We're also pretty lucky in that our singer plays guitars and is an EXCELLENT riffer. Most of our originals are his ideas with the rest of us sprinkling on a little more flavor. (He grew up in the LA scene during the 80's and has some very cool stories, too.) He was buds with Bobby Blotzer...something we urged him not to bring up at the last show!!!
Like Jimbax, Joe (my singer) has some "not so flattering" Don Dokken tales LOL!!!
