If Only...

Hey guys,
I was just thinking... I started playing when I was 19 and I'm 41 now.. (Long live rock!) I remember ordering the little tab booklet "Star Licks" that came with the tape so you could hear the riff fast then slow.. I had them all..

I also remember when the first issue of Guitar for the Practicing Musician came out.. I had stacks & stacks of those also..
Even though I spent countless hours learning my favorite songs, I never really developed into a speed player.. Never really made it a goal either.. until recently.

I've been using a program called Transcribe! to loop a certain section, slow the riffs down, and speed 'em up as I play along.. I've been making a lot of progress. I think this is a great tool.. Not making a sales pitch here.. Just wish I had this when I started playing!

I'm interested in hearing your stories and advice (milestones?) on how you developed your speed.

P.S. I just bought a used Les Paul off ebay. It'll be my 3rd Paul since I started playing.

I take everything slow at first. I play it ten times slow before I try one time fast. That's always worked for me.

guitar for the practicing musician (and tab basically) was the greatest thing to happen to guitar players...i rememeber seeing that issue with jake and ozzy on the cover with crazy train transcribed and i just about shat myself...good times...i still have alot of those issues and remember learning how to play because of them...too bad that magazine isn't around anymore.... i know, it became "guitar one" but that magazine blows... ;D

Yea, and now Guitar World is $8!!! because it comes with a CD.

Ya'll remember Doug Marks Metal Method?? Never used it myself but I know poeple who have and had great results!!
