Any of you guys use attenuators, thd or airbrake more specifically?
I've had a hotplate + marshall working well before, primarily just to crank the amp and still have reasonable stage volume. I've got an iso for recording.
Just wondering how its worked for any of you that have tried either one with your Splawn?

I tried a hotplate with my qr and a buddies mojotone cab w/ greenies..I didn't much like what it did to the tone..BUT, I think we may have had the bright switch engaged and didn't realize it..lol...I'd have to try it again

I play mine with a Scholz Power Soak all the time. Love it for recording and fine adjustment of volume control. This is in to my Splawn 2x12 cabinet. :0

Cool, and thanks. I'm leaning towards getting an airbrake, I've got a 4x12 cab for live, also an iso cab and 2X12 for recording... 4X12 is 16 ohm, iso w/ 2x12 are 8 ohms, don't wanna buy 2 hotplates either. Just gonna take the plunge, y'all will hear back from me on this.
Shreder, I recall not getting anything to my liking with the bright switch on when I had a hotplate.

You Can blow up an amp by using attenuator. They can be kind of hard on amps. Brink, a friend of Scotts likes the Scholz Power Soak. He has used it for years and hasn't blown an amp up yet. I don't think he has used it with a Splawn. I have the Mashall Power brake. I haven't used it with my Comp. When buying one of these things look how much it weighs. Heavy is good. The marshall is about 6-7 lbs. Check with Scott before plugging one in. He will tell you. I will check next time in.

Thanks davo... will be looking for more from you on this.
In regards to blowing up the amp using an attenuator... I've known about that, too much attenuation is definitely not good. Just wanna try hitting the sweet spot, and attenuate as needed to maintain reasonable stage volume. I appreciate any and all input. Not going to be in bedroom either, use a Boss BR1600 at home.

I talked to one of the guys at the shop. I never got "don't use one with your Splawn" but he wasn't very keen on the whole idea of Attenuation. I wouldn't use one (with a Splawn.) I will ask Scott Straight up, when I see him.

I asked Scott this very question. He told me that he personally does not like them as they affect the tone - however, some people like it some people don't. He did tell me, however, that running high volume with an attenuator will cause the tubes to run "hot" and shorten the life of the tubes unless they are biased a little cooler.
Could just be the price of admission, however, for running a big amp in the house. Personally, I'm going to get one and see how it goes.
