Hello,
Did a search on this topic and only came up with 2 older threads having limited replies.
With most cabs the typical difference in sound is the slant having less percieved bottom end. Does anybody own both straight and slant cabs (with identical speakers) who may have some additional opinions to share. The Splawn slant cab is a bit unique in the baffleboard is one piece, so I'm curious what the sound differences are between the straight and slant cabs, if any.
Thanks,
Sonic

there's actually two slant cabs available now..the one you mentioned where teh WHOLE baffle is slanted, then there's a traditional slant..straight on the bottom, slanted on top
craig's got a straight and a slant...I don't think it's a traditional slant though..I think he's got the one with whole baffle slanted..

I think with the slant, all 4 speakers are not firing together, so the sound waves bounce around a little more and that's where the bass goes, and a possibility of some other frequencies as well. It's not a big or bad difference. I think Scott or Josh mentioned that when I ordered a straight one 2 weeks ago.

Let me clarify that even my slant cabs have enough bottom end with the bass on 12:00 to make most people want to have a bowel movement.

Oh great, now there's THREE different cab types. Doh!
Yeah, there's this age-old debate about weather the ears are perceiving a difference that doesn't actually exist at the cab itself, or weather the sound difference is actually at the source (due to waveform cancellations inside the cab from the speakers not firing unilaterally together). Also there's an additional theorem that takes the latter theory even further and says the slant-cab waveforms can effect the "movement" of the speakers inside the cab and therefore also add to an impact on the sound.
I really only care about what it sounds like to my ears and to a microphone, not so much what the actual causes are (although that is always interesting to learn!). Opinions from people who own and play the different cabs are probably the best information for us to rely upon.

Sonic I think it goes like this straight--fullest and most bass slant --brightest hybrid slant --somewhere in between as far as a mic goes..probably wont' make that much of a different I'm thinking..at least not as much difference as to what you're hearing from the cab itself....
