well someone mentioned the alesis so I thought i'd throw it in there by the by, don't be afraid to dime the gain..it won't fart out on you... what about on OD2?? you don't think it's got enough gain on OD2? see, told ya you shoulda gotten a QR w/ third gear..lol...just bustin chops Thats cool man. I do have the dime gained on the head and thats all three gears. Its somewhat frustrating because if it just got a bit heavier I would probably like the amp alot. Hey, I'm still interested in hearing your QR to see if its better suited for what I want. Let me know when you'll be available and we can set something up if thats cool with you.

you have it dimed and it's STILL not enough gain? cripes dude...lol..... I don't think it's the amount of gain you don't like...I think it's the voicing that you don't like..that's just a supposition though =) I'll look at my schedule..with my upcomming gig it's gonna be a little tight.. BUT, you could always come to the gig and see it in a band situation =) december 18 info here: www.disasterpiecerocks.com

Maybe I will check out your band if I have nothing going on at the time. I am in the middle of recording so its getting a bit hectic. I would rather play one to get the feel though. I can always call good ol' Johnny Mo!

Donalddemon, what cab are you running through? I've posted several times about how I don't use a lot of gain, yet my rig steps all over my other guitar player who uses a Gibson Explorer into a 5150 through a Mesa Traditional 4x12. He's a gain freak!!! His number one complaint since I got my QuickRod is that I step all over him...and he isn't running his mids very low, either. I'm using a Les Paul with a BBQ in the bridge into the QuickRod (no 3rd gear) into a Buzzbomb 2x12 and I sound heavier, more dynamic, and more focused than his rig. That surprises me (and ticks him off) everytime we play.

Just curious, have you tried changing output tubes? maybe weak? sounds like it has traveled a little bit.

That surprises me (and ticks him off) everytime we play. I am using a Bogner 4x12 straight cab with V30's in it. I also have a Rivera K312 w/ 2x12 V30's and a 300 watt 12" powered subwoofer that I have yet to try. All that will do is separate the lows from the mids and the highs though and shouldn't sound much different than the Bogner. I have never had a problem with gain on other heads using those cabinets and theat shouldn't have much effect on that anyway. Maybe higher wattage speakers will change the character and tone of the amp enough to where I want it, I don't know? I have always used V30's and liked the results. Oh, and hacksaw, the amp is 3 months old. It shouldn't need output tubes for a year at least!

Donalddemon, Sounds more like the voicing of the amp isn't conducive to your taste.

Donalddemon, Sounds more like the voicing of the amp isn't conducive to your taste. Yeah you may be right. It sucks because I really thought my search was over judging by all the good feedback on these amps. I guess I'm just too damn picky but nothing really works the way I expect it to. I am not giving up yet though so I'm going to hang in there and maybe it will grow on me. I am used to monster gain amps so I may just have to adjust. I won't know until we have a gig anyway because that is the true test!

Nah, you just have "that" tone in your head and haven't found the amp that does it yet. You're right about the gig being the test...shreder75 and I were going round and round about the gain and we found out that our basis for comparison was worlds apart. I thought he was crazy for thinking you need more gain and tightness from 2nd gear...I was basing my judgement from gig volume. Truth is, at lower volumes, I completely agree with him. At low volumes, I run my gain at around 1:00, at gig levels I run it at around 10:30 to 11:00 otherwise it has too much thump and hair (for my taste). I doubt that would be the case with you...it sounds like you really like a specific type of gain, but I'd give it at least one gig. Just out of curiousity, what's the highest you've had the master at so far?
