Assume your QR was stolen and you just got an insurance check for enough $$ to cover any splawn amp. Would you buy another QR or would you go with the Nitro? WHY? If you went Nitro, would you order the nitro with el-34's?
I prefer a VH/Lynch tone to BLS. Can the nitro do QR tones and then some?

If you prefer VH/Lynch go with the QR. Just my opinion. I think the Nitro could do it also but if you're going EL34's go with the QR as the Nitro has the 77's.

i wish i had more time to play with the knobs on the nitro to find out how versatile it is. i need an amp that can play U2 to megadeth...i know the QR can...need to find out if the nitro can do U2.
if you can only have 1 splawn i'd stick with the QR

Well I'd get another Quick Rod if i didn't have my 2nd one already .. if for no other reason then I know what I'm getting and its something that I like and want regardless of how much I may like the Nitro.

the nitro is not going to replace the QR...it's going to compliment it.

I've gone back and forth since Splawn Con on whether or not to sell my Pro Stock (QR w/ no clean channel) to get a Nitro. But I don't think I could give it up, so I'm saving my pennies for a Nitro. Have to have them both!!! ;D

You know a lot of guys here mentioned that the Nitro's gain can get to "zakk wylde territory". Are you kidding me? The QR can get zakk's older and BETTER tone with no prob, his newer tone is sh1tty anyway and you could get it with a marshall MG.

Id get another QR. The Nitro sounds great and I think its going to be a good seller for Splawn, but I dont think its gonna do exactly what the QR does regardless of how its eq'd.Maybe im wrong? The Nitro sounds like its voiced for a more modern tone and that will appeal to many people for that reason. Id buy the Nitro if thats the sound I was going for. If VH/Lynch is your thing, no question Id go for the QR.......

Since you asked...I'm an existing QR owner...was buying another amp...had the chance to get a Nitro in about 4 weeks...
...and decided to get a 2007 QR w/updated cleans instead (currently have Version 2 w/previous clean channel). We play metal ala old Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Miaden, etc...and venture into KSE, Shadows Fall type territory somewhat (we do all originals). The QR does exactly what we need it to do, and we never use anything other than Gear 1 and 2 on OD2. No use for Gear 3. It's tight and punchy for metal rhythms, sounds great on lead work, etc.
The Nitro is a great amp, and I'll likely pick one up sooner or later. But I'm happy with the Qr at the moment. Plus, it's great to hear some EL34, Marshall-esque crunch again these days in metal when it seems like every other band has drifted into the more modern tone territory that the Nitro starts leaning towards.

I am in this situation right now. My Quick Rod was on order and will be ready in November and I got the option to change to the Nitro. After several discussions and listening to the clips I decided to stay with the Quick Rod. I like the Lynch/Maiden type tones the QR gets and the AC/DC down to U2 type stuff as well. I like BLS and some modern stuff, but the QR can probably get there also with a EQ and Tube Screamer to add some saturation. My current desires do not lean towards the modern tones anyway. That is not what a good guitar sound is to my ear. However the Nitro sounds awesome and still sounds like a Splawn to me, it is not modern buzzy like so many high gain amps are. This is my opinion and only comes to hearing clips by the way.
Quick Rod gets my vote!!!!
