Just got a call from a local band looking for me to fill in for a gig. I've played with them before. They're a good band and a lot of fun to play with. I haven't gigged since January when my last band called it quits.
I haven't decided which amp I'll play yet. The JCM 800 or the QR. I'm leaning toward the Marshall only because the QR is brand new and I'm not 100% comfortable with it yet. Plus my pedalboard is dis-assembled!! I'll just put together a small board with the essentials for this gig.

I just went down to the studio to rehearse some of the material for the gig. I used the QR. I plugged straight into the amp and ran the Mxr eq and a reverb pedal in the loop.
Man, this was the best this amp has sounded since I first got it. It was f'in SINGING!
I read on a forum(possibly this one) that somebody had said that when they play along to a song they felt that the QR was missing something tone-wise. And when they played along with their Marshall is sounded like the recording....all I can say is my QR sounded every bit as good if not better than the recording. I was playing along with "Rebel Yell" and we all know Steve Stevens' recording plexi is KILLER and my QR, IMO was right there.

That's so awesome! I love my quickrod in a live setting, especially when everyone is locked in, it sounds fantastic. In a live setting I usually like to take the gain down from my usual spot to let the rest of the band breath a bit. I'm very stoked for you and it's great to hear your using you rod live. Awesome story!

The QR's mid focus suddenly makes a whole lot of sense when playing with a band, you don't even have to turn it up very loud to get the air moving from the cab and that's where the tone lives! How were the G75t' sounding in the mix?

Awesome story! I actually think I'm gonna use the Marshall for this gig. My pedalboard is nowhere near ready for the QR. My switcher will be able to make all the changes that the Splawn foot pedal makes plus switch fx in and out. For this gig I'm just gonna make a minimalist pedalboard: tuner/wah/chorus/flange/boost.... The QR board is actually gonna be a complicated piece of work when it's done.

So I jammed with the band that I'm filling in with next weekend. I used the JCM 800....I hate to admit it but, I was less than thrilled with how it was sounding. I was really wishing my pedalboard that I'm making for the QR was done.
The Marshall just wasn't cutting through the mix very well. Don't get me wrong, it still sounded pretty good but just not as good as I had remembered. I hadn't played that amp since I received the QR.

That's great to hear man! Good feedback. What's happening to you happens to most Once those Small Blocks get broken in I doubt you will ever look back. And honestly, my Small Block cab sounded great right out of the box. Not sure if Scott has them broken in or not but compared to other new speakers I have bought - the Small Blocks were ready to go right out of the gate.

The SB's are currently in transit as we speak but I won't have them until next week. So I'll just use the stock speakers for the gig. I'm doing another fill-in with the same band in July too so the new speakers will be in and most likely broken in.

Im actually thinking that I might break down and order a port city OS 2x12 and put the SB's in that cab....I'm just hesitant due to the price.
I see very few used ones for sale.

I checked and yeah people always want almost full price for them. It's almost better to just order one new. Tough call

I just pulled the trigger on a Port City OS 2x12!! I'm gonna load the small blocks in this cab and maybe later on down the road I'll swap the speakers in my Marshall.
