Yeah, so I got both QR's yesterday, one for me and one for my buddy John from Physical Grafitti.
Holy SH1T.. do these new amps sound good. I called Scott and had to tell him what a great job he did... I mean 3rd gear is really something. Finally a high-gain amp that doesn't lose any punch or clarity. Amazing. And openeing 2 brand new ones and playing them side by side, the consistency is really something.. Scott is one fine craftsman.
So gotta head to an EARLY soundcheck for tonights show. I'm bringing both cabs and both heads,, he he he he The rig from h3ll man. I'll post pics and maybe even videos as were recording everything.
Happy New Year everyone.

Ok Vom, I'm going to do that. I really have a mess of a recording setup. Its awful. I just got this laptop and am installing Cubase. I really need some help though.. Can any of you guys recommend something to help me out.. I mean I can PLAY, I just am a friggin retard with recording software.. DAAAAAMN.
If I could get something simple working I'd record clips every day!! I mean listen to my clips, they're awful sounding compared to other peoples. The playings ok, but the sound is horrible... I need HELP.
So last nights gig...
One of the best nights I've had in a LONG time thanks to the new amp. I actually think not only is 3rd gear cool, but 1st and 2nd sound better too than the old ones. I didn't notice it until I got up to stage volumes. I was running full power at about 12 o'clock through2 4-12 cabs.. and it was LOUD.
I spent my night swicthing between Gears alot. Of course 2nd gear is the most versatile. It can do about anything.. I used 1st gear on the VH, AC/DC , Def Leppard, Priest etc.. I used 2nd on most of the Hair-Metal crap like SKid Row, Ozzy, Warrant, Slaughter etc.. I used 3rd alot too, anytime I had some shredin solos to do, like Whitesnake, still of the night, Dokken, etc..
Also, the clean channel on the new amp is ALOT better, like 1000% better.
3rd gear is a miracle. Its high-gain with no loss of punch or clarity. Its a brand new thing I believe. I've never heard an amp do this like this before. No need for any OD pedals or anything... its ALL THERE.
I know Scotts going to read this,, or Josh or Brian or on of the guys, pass this along to him, cause I will when I talk to him too,, but heres the deal...
Make the gears footswitchable and your done. Seriously, thats it, you'll have the perfect amp and you'll sell so many it will make you guys millionaires.. thats all you need to do to this thing.
My perfect Splawn setup would be to use 1st gear on OD1 on ALL of my rhythms. I love 1st gears for rhtyhms. Its just such a spanking sparkly tone I love it for everything... but I want 3rd gear on most of my solos.
Unfortunately because of the footswitch issue I have to turn the gear by hand and use it for a whole song.. then I stuck on tha gear no matter what.. I really think this is something that needs to be done and then this amp is perfect,, because it sounds perfect in all gears. Strictly from a functionality standpoint only, it would be great!!! or us live players just add 3 extra buttons to the switch for 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear, leave the other 3 buttons alone and its the perfect live rig.
Please Scott!!

Since most of the software is somewhat the same, whats messing with ya? I would be glad to help. ( as I am sure others here would too. is it levels? or functionality? Cubase is a great product. One of the easiest is the older Cakewalks pro Audio ver 8 or 9, (IF its the software thats just confusing?) and you can get it cheap on ebay or.. as its a old version, its straight forward, click record interface ( sound card) set level, record, go at it. can track 256, can mix etc.. Compared to Sonar, ( new version of cakewalk) and others, this was the easiest, fastest software I have used. I still use it on a older PC just for fast takes, I use a 16 channel Mackie 1604 VLZ Pro Board into a 8 in-8 out PC interface into Sonar 4 Pro. Thats a cool review craig, Glad it was a fun night. I am glad to hear the changes on the new amps are a lot better! that or its the chicken head knobs.. you did get the knobs didnt you? LOL +1 vote for gears on footswitch. as I have to change manually to much.

Hey Craig,Your clip of the blues was the reason I bought the quick rod. It has lived up to my expectations for all hard rock and classic rock and even SRV type sounds.mine was one of the first with the clean channel(which is the week point of the amp). Are you saying it would be worth it to buy one of the new ones if Scott is not upgrading the previous versions.I have never had to max out the gain on mine. infact I have never used any more than the gain at 1/2.However all my guitars have specially wound pickups and an expander in the place of a tone control which makes the guitar signal real hot when the expander is on.My Favorite tone is the Doug Aldrich tone in White snake. I am always looking for something better. is it worth another $1700 to buy another QR.By the way that clip of the blues sounds great.Maybe when you get tired of the hard rock you have a second career playing the blues.I went full circle from 70s classic rock to 80s Whitesnake, dokken stuff to Blues and now I want to go back to the hard rock again. Since I am willing to double on keyboards, I never have a hard time finding any type of band.

I agree, Dirrty Craigs sound clips on the Splawn site are very good recordings. Maybe craig will elaborate what the problems are.... ?

I need third gear really bad! I am more interested in 1st gear for older hard rock like Def Leppard, Priest, and Van Halen.

I got better than pics,, I gots video!!.. albeit crappy video,, but its my first time making them on the PC. Its in Windows Media Player format an its a 10 MB file.. but here it is.. hair-metal.com/video/DirrtyCraig.wmv2 very short solo clips.. first one is 2nd gear with gain dimed, second solo is 3rd gear gain dimed. No pedals or effects used at all. Both solos were basically improvised, I never play anything like the record.. Sorry for the slop,, I was 5 shots of Crown and 5 beers in,, but its the best I got,, LMAO.. I'll try to grab some good rhythm clips, but its hard to hear it on the camcorder mic compared to my sick @ss solo boost on these,, hahaha. Thanks for the kind words on my crappy sounding clips... haahaha. But seriously.. I just get this great sound out of the cab and can't get it onto the PC.. I'll elaborate tomorrow,, I got to get to bed, I'm beat loading out PA and eveything until 5AM lastnight,, ouch.
