I'm a sucker for compliments and I take feedback from other people real seriously most of the time, especially when its from people I respect. Everyone has their own opinions on what tones sound good or bad. I thought the QR sounded great right out of the box at bedroom levels. BUT,, it wasn't until I started playing gigs with it (2 days after I got it) that it really sunk in how good it sounded to OTHER people.
I noticed a real change in what people would say to me shows, it wasn't so much about my playing anymore, more and more guitar players and sound engineers were telling me how great the AMP sounded which is really something that was new to me after 15 years of live playing and 1000's of gigs.....
You guys know I love to drop names, but sorry I can't help it,,LMAO.. Jeff Blando from Slaughter came up on stage to check the amp out. I talked to someone who knows him real well and they said in 20 years hes NEVER done that. He usually stands in the back and watches from afar. Scotti Hill from Skid Row was looking at me like I was an alien when we opened for them. I could tell he did NOT want to follow that amp. The soundman from Firehouse said it was the best guitar sound he mixed all of Bike Week. Thats a bold statement considerging all the great bands and players there that week.
People react to good tone, and in all my years I've never seen people, musicians and non-musicians alike, react to a piece of gear like they have in the year I've played my Quick Rod.

It was a blast. I have a funny story because I've had some bad experiences in the past opening for Nationals I went into Bike Week with a chip on my shoulder. I expected everyone to be complete @ssholes and I had one intention, which was to just smoke everybody.. LOL. what I found was the exact opposite. All of the guys in Slaughter, Skid Row, Jackyl, Firehouse, Molly Hatchet, were THE NICEST guys and treated us as equals backstage and after show partys. Man it was a fun week. Scotti Hill was by far the nicest and most complimentary toward my sound and playing and just an all-around cool guy.
The guys in Slaughter are also way cool and we hang out with them all the time since the guitarist lives here. I mean sitting and talking with Dana Strum backstage was amazing. The guys a legend in the LA scene. I mean he GOT RANDY RHOADS the gig in Ozzy! I mean c'mon, how cool is it to hang with this guy. I mean when I was in kindergarten this guy was booking shows for Quiot Riot and Van Halen in bars in LA!!! I love hearing his stories.

I have a similar story, but no one famous in it. I had a friend come over and check out my Splawn Modded Marshall last week. His jaw hit the floor! I had the SOB cranked to paint cracking levels too. I got the same reaction from him on my Mojave Peacemaker. The same reactions happen to me all the time. I would imagine new Quick Rods would just floor everyone in the same way! Its great having the best of both worlds when it comes to amps! (pardon the VH pun! LOL) When I get the Marshall switched around for the Quick Rod I am totally done with amp buying..........unless I win a lot of money!
I feel like I have not fully experienced the Marshall, cause I have been playing the Wolfgangs through it. This new Mansel will change things a lot for my setup!
